I see not point in flashing until *AT LEAST* MP3 playback works.

Thanks for explaining how to do a proper delete Xavier.

I admit I'm somewhat impatient and have been looking forward to Rockbox for a year now. However, as someone who has been keeping daily if not secondly tabs on the dev. I'm willing to go through and read up on what I need to do. I appreciate those who put the file out there so people could test drive.

However, for every stupid question there will be a couple good questions every now and then. This is a forum, for a reason.

I'm willing to help out anyway that I can Linus, I'm very much for this project as everyone else is.

Thank you to all the dev's by the way!

Edit:

I'd like to add that I don't believe the iriver firmware is displaying the correct amount of space. According to windows/rockbox I have 1.29 gigs left but the iriver firmware is saying I have 829 mb left. Someone is obviously lying ~_^

I'd say it has a pretty good chance. Someone just needs to feel like coding it.

Xavier, thanks for clearing up that stuff about the delete function. I assumed that it didnt work because when I pressed play (as the GUI) says it didnt delete.

As for my other comment about the greyscale rockbox being buggy, I know thats early in development I just thought maybe I could report some bugs.

No please leave it. It's so much quicker just to press the joystick in than pressing play.

I didn't say which I would change, the text or the key.

It'll be great if a PC config util is created to adjust Rockbox OS, like a high quality remote that allows you to arrange buttons how you like..
ie.. so you can assign functions on any remote, or disabled unused features, or only only a certain keypress to do things..ie to adjust volume can allow normal up/down, but can allow to configure so select and then up/down..or whatever you prefer.

Yeah that would be great, especially if something like EQ needs to be changed through a menu.

Got My first rockbox error today.
I tried to boot it up and it took a rarther long time. After awhile it showed:

"PANIC"
asa" -1

or something alone those lines, resetting it fixed it but i had a scare of possibly being the first to have a brick.

Looks like you had a pretty low battery level. Can you confirm this?

If it's that vital, why not just stop FFing for a while and play the audio!?

The .cfg files are a great feature - a bit hard to load though.

Well you could stop fast forwarding it, but if you have a 75 minute mix as one track and your not sure where in that track the song you want to listen to is, it would be rather tedious to stop thew ff process every few seconds to try and find it. you may have even missed it and ff'ed past it. It a feature I expect to have in a DAP like the iriver.

I agree that it's a useful feature, but I never missed it enough to actually sit down and code it.

this isnt a complaint at all, but I noticed that when using rockbox, the optical laser is on. Anybody else notice this or is it just my player (on normal iriver firmware laser is out)

The code for the laser control hasn't been written yet, and it seems to be on by default.

car mode

would it be difficult to implement a car mode...
like it would display song titles larger than normal and thats probably all that's needed be displayed...and when a new song comes on the backlight would turn on.

that would be sweet

You can save different sets of settings like font size and volume in a .cfg file. Just set up the settings as you have them normally and go to the menu by pressing A/B and then General settings/System/Manage Settings/Write .fg file. Give it a name. and press play. The set up the settings as you would like them in the car and do the same process. To load them you just go to General settings/System/Manage Settings/Browse .cfg files and click on the one you want. Everything is saved like volume, font, 'While Playing Screen' file and many others too.
