saving radio channels
Hi!
I've just started using the Rockbox FM radio, but I don't know how to save channels. When it says "no settings found" Autoscan? I do that, but it doesn't seem as if the channels are saved. Excuse a newbie. Nille |

You could save yourself a lot of scanning and saving if you'd just point your browser to FmPresets < Main < TWiki ... That rockbox wiki page describes how to list the stations you want in a text file (and where to put it once saved).
There are even pre-made presets for many cities/regions of the world so you can download one either as an example or (like I did) as a basis from which you can cut out the crap channels. Good luck.

unfortunately my region wasn't listed and I found no information on how to scan and save channels on that page. This seems a bit complicated. Why can't you just autoscan and the channels are saved automatically?

I don't know why channels aren't automatically saved, but there's no great difficulty in it : just hold 'select button' (or right button, or -o- button, whatever you wish to call it) for a second or two and you'll get into the context menu for the radio. Hit 'save presets' and then the 'play' button to confirm the default name for the preset list file. Next time you start the radio it will load your presets. That being said, on my device at least, autoscan picks up loads of static non-stations and does miss some too. Hence editing an already existing preset file allows : - Clean and exact position on the band - Just the stations I want - Named stations like CBC-talk radio, CBC-Music 1, etc. And its not difficult to edit one such file on your computer. Heck, I googled "fm radio montreal" to get a list of all the stations in my area but I could pick result with "fm radio in lisbon", "fm radio in honolulu" or "fm radio in ouagadougou" so...

Thanks for your help, but I still can't work it out. Firs I do an autoscan and when I press the select button it says that there are no presets, although I've just done an autoscan.
I must be doing something wrong. Nille |

Do you have earplugs plugged in (they serve as antenna, without them the device will scan nothing good).. When the autoscan is done, does pressing REW/FFWD steps through 'pre set stations' ?
Maybe first go in the menu (long press of select) and choose what general region you're in (asia, europe, ...) and then try the autoscan again (from the menu)... Pixelma, over at rockbox.org, just added the radio chapter into the manual files but it is not compiled yet. Tomorrow's edition of the manuals should have that part in them so you may want to go there and read up.. It'll be in the 5.xx (Main Menu) chapter I think. Good luck

I'm not sure what you mean... You don't save one channel, you save the list of presets. Do you mean, then, that you want different lists (as if you were moving a lot from a city to another city) or what??
