Well you can setup a build environement and produce your own UIsimulators under linux, if you have the patience... Instructions are in the wiki page at rockbox.org .

I'm AMD64 Kubuntu Gutsy. I'll try to remember how to compile for ia32 when I can, but my simulator will do horrible things to your 32bit install.

There are two kind of development environment for rockbox :
- Linux, either on a linux box or through an emulator for people on windows
- Windows, through the cygwin cross-compiler.

The former will create unix-like binaries while the later will create windows binaries. I think Angryman used cygwin. TheMono most probably builds directly from linux.

...And I don't think running cygwin through Wine would work well. Admittedly I haven't tried.

The easiest thing to do would be to load a build on your player then load the wps and then go from the main menu into system and debug then hit screen dump. Then go back to your wps and insert your usb cable. Every time you insert it it will store a .bmp file in the root of your drive.
Good Luck!

I think Wine is incompatible with SDL.dll - ironic, really.
