No more UMS

Just installed Rockbox on my H10 20g. Works fine, but I can no longer use UMS trick...when I try it, I get the emergency connect screen, but it stays there and never gets to USB connected. Suggestions? Thanks.

RockBox is only UMS.
You don't need to use the 'UMS trick', all you're doing is stopping it from working.

Actually, you DO need to use the UMS trick for the H10, because no one has a USB stack for it (much like the iPods).

It's very odd that it's stopped working. Try hitting the reset button and see if it will work then. Also, what OS are you using on your computer, and have you connected it to this computer successfully before?

My apologies, what I'd read regarding the H10 and RockBox seemed to imply that it was automatically UMS.

I understand. It is, by the H10's standards automatically UMS. A lot of players had to connect to the computer via MTP, but with rockbox the only way you can connect to the computer is via the UMS trick, using UMS.

I believe after you turn off Rockbox, you need to RESET the H10 before the UMS trick will work again.

Thanks everyone...turns out it was the laptop not recognizing the player and a simple restart cured it...go figure.

scuderiaconchiglia: Actually, no, you don't NEED to. Sometimes, though, the player will go screwy and a restart could fix it.

fdecaprio: Glad to hear you got it figured out.

Doh! Of course you are right. It is the original firmware that requires a reset before the UMS trick, right?

The function of resetting in the OF is to kill all power to the device, making possible the UMS trick. Since Rockbox shuts down completely every time, that is why it works.
