Unhappy Rockbox Unstable

I loaded Rockbox on my H20. It is is now insanely unstable and slow. Worked fine with the old firmware last week. Seems really swell that people worked their butts off to make it do everything but cook dinner, but all I wanted was mic recording level control. When it's playing, it takes about thirty seconds to respond to any control. Sometimes I can't get it to turn off. It was scolling up and wouldn't stop until I plugged it in. Thought that was a hardware prob until it didn't do it anymore after reboot. Come to think of it, the scolling is really screwy in general. Reinstalled Rockbox and got all the exact same issues.

Sigh. So not worth it.

sounds like you've got the EQ settings turned on.

at the moment, the EQ cant be enabled on the h10 series cause resources (cpu time, mainly) arent properly worked out.

enabling the EQ leads to issues exactly like what youve described.

the fact that after you reinstalled it still happened leads me to believe you didnt clear your settings after you installed a new version of rockbox - this is always important. to do this: let the player turn on, then switch the hold key. rockbox will message with 'cleared' and thats it

so disable the EQ and let us know if anything else is bad

Holy cow! That appears to have fixed it. I just assumed that any available option was good to go; a stupid assumption on such a project, I guess. Heck, my wife's Nano sounds like crap if you turn on the EQ and/or the sound-leveling, and someone spent a lot of money developing that thing.

Since you are so wise in the ways of Rockbox, and there's some stuff missing regarding recording in the Rockbox manual:
I couldn't figure out how to save a recording once I'm done recording.
What does "volume" do on the recording screen?
It doesn't look like "gain" affects the meters; do you just have to make a listen to a test recording and sort of guess at a gain adjustment?

Any other settings to watch out for?

Thanks for your help!

To save a recording once you are done, you can hit the back button to stop the recording, then the back button again to go back to the menu and that will clear out everything (saving what you recorded to a file). Please note that after you record something, you MUST restart rockbox in order to play music.

I believe that recording volume and gain have not yet been implemented for the H10.
