Post Well, I think that I will need to re-install a new firmware

I do not know what else to do but to re-install a firmware. On my iRiver H10/20GB, this unit has Boot ver: 1.10... I have read the tut for RockBox, It looks overwelming to me. Will " Irivium Explorer " work on this unit? First - in the RockBox - While installing, Will it wipe out the hard drive to a clean hard drive? Meaning all existing songs, pictures gone, even a folder that I cannot delete out at all? This is my goal and start all over again with a fresh clean 20GB. Once turning on the player after RockBox Firmware has been installed, will I still get the Tool List Icons( music, fm radio, recording, photo, text, browser, and settings showing?) In the RockBox tut it states " you will need to connect into UMS mode " Sorry, I do not understand the UMS mode. Remember, Slow to learn all this new stuff and I'm not a STUPID Person...* grin* I want to use " 20gb MTP bootloader " Correct? I want to use the Build: rockbox-h10.zip, Correct? And... rockbox-20070129.tar.bz2 Or is there a different version of RockBox? And... Do I need to use the " Dual Booting?" *** If I do choose this, re-install a new, latest capatable firmware, can someone here help me with this ONCE I do start this process, step by step as I go? **** Otherwise, Not to choose "rockbox firmware " unless I'm convienced to use it, can someone tell me where to get the latest updated version of this firmware that iRiver has put on this unit? **** TX! I will chack back for any personal help posted.

www.iriver.com has the firmware recovery tool you'll need to do a fresh updated install of your firmware. Just back up your current music (or anything else you wanna save) by putting the h10 into UMS mode (reset button > hold O button and power at the same time until you see "emergency connection"). This way you can just drag your music onto your harddrive and pop it back onto your h10 when you have the firmware you want installed. The rockbox guide is easy, and I recommend using Angryman's build w/ dualboot if you want to run rockbox, which you can find easily on this forum page. You'll enjoy all the customization that rockbox offers, as well as the extended battery life and smoother, faster operations! Have fun!

I am very new to the H10 as I've only just got one. I already have a H340 and two H120s and have used Rockbox extensively (more than a year) on all three of my players. I know that battery life under Rockbox on both the H300 and H100 series players is better than the original iriver firmware. However, I was under the impression that Rockbox for the H10 was still in the process of being optimised and that battery life isn't as good yet under Rockbox compared to the original firmware. Is that still the case? I have already made my H10 5G UMS and dual-boot and am using AngryMan's excellent build. Can I expect longer battery life under Rockbox compared to the iriver firmware just yet?

@ the OP - sorry that my reply wasn't related to your questions. It might seem a bit danunting to begin with, but please persevere with installing Rockbox. I would never go back to the iriver firmware on my players unless I need to use something that isn't supported (e.g. USB-on-the-go on my H340 or FM radio (for now) on the H10). When I have more time, I'll make some response regarding the install process to see if I can help you out at all.

Battery life have improved a lot in recent times. You'll squeeze about 5-6 hours of life out of a Rockboxed H10 5/6G. You'll still get better life from iriver's firmware, however.

Using the kernel-on-cop patch, you supposedly get slightly longer battery life. Angryman's build have this patch.

Well, I am a dum dum on this part.... Maybe the light will go on in my brain eventually, ha ha. You stated "UMS mode (reset button > hold O button and power at the same time until you see "emergency connection")" Question, -> What and where is the O button??? I know of the reset pinhole

" www.iriver.com has the firmware recovery tool you'll need to do a fresh updated install of your firmware." What is the URL to download the recovery tool and the firmware to download version 2.51? TX for more help.

Take your time.
Just be careful about the amount of posts you make in a short amount of time. Try using the button.

Good luck! Using Rockbox is a rewarding experience. Don't rush the steps!
