Rockbox MPEG Encoder with GUI

Rockbox GUIEncode is a program I made to ease the encoding of video files for rockbox. While version 1 was written in AutoIt, version 2 is completely rewritten in REALbasic, and along with it, I have a new website. I will continue to post on this thread about new releases, but they can now always be found at TrueJournals.

For a video preview, check out this YouTube video. GUIEncode is designed to be completely portable so you can store it on your player and have it whenever you want to encode a video.

Please visit TrueJournals for download links.

Note: currently, this is windows-only. A linux version could come soon, but it could take a bit of work. No promises.

Wonderful Contribution sir. Your thread is now officially stuck. I'm wondering if perhaps you'd like me to make another thread for your program, so that if you have any major updates, you'll be able to just add them to this current thread, and it will be following the first post. In other words, I'll move all of these posts to another thread, and this current one will be for official releases, and perhaps even bug reports (if you'd like)

Doug

Edit: Crap, I just realized that I'd have to boot to windows to test this out. Damned dirty .exe's !

OK, I just tested it. Converted fine, but when I play on my h10 (6gb), the sound is perfect, but the video is very slow, and out of sync. I'm assuming this is rockbox, not the converter?
Either, nice work!

I'll add a link in my tutorial to this

EDIT: I notice that it says it can convert .flv's, which is awesome. But when I try to add one, it cant find any of my .flvs . They are all downloaded from youtube. Might it be because I am running Vista and Vista wants to open the .flvs with IE?

Its a great idea, nice work so far
however it is in a really early stage
I encoded a video and sound is out of sync when playing on pc
it was probably because I was encoding an xvid avi though

Wow! Glad to see this thread is stickied, and glad to see people like the program!

iSweet Spot: This one thread will be fine... I'll just update the first post when a new version comes out, and post a reply so people can see it's updated.

itsmeguys: Make sure your flv files have .flv at the end of them. I just tried to encode a .flv, and it found it fine and encoded it fine. Also, the files it spits out are really .mpg files (so that rockbox will recognize them), I just had it add .rock.mpg to the end of the file so you could differentiate it from the original file.

Truth be told, I didn't really test encoded videos, I just made sure it could encode. Basically, this is a frontend to mencoder, so if A/V is out of sync, it's most likely a problem with that (and A/V is out of sync). I'll try looking at my code though to see if I can get it sorted out.

I should also mention that the video file types I could think of off the top of my head are *.mov *.mpg *.mpeg *.avi *.wmv *.rm *.flv and *.m4v. If you encounter a file and the program won't recognize it, it doesn't have one of these extensions. If I missed a type of movie file, please post here and I'll add it to the program.

Yeah, I thought that too, and checked it a few times, it definately had .flv on the end.
Ohwell, it doesnt really bother me

Hmm... I guess the correct thing for me to say would be make sure the EXTENSION is flv. Judging by you saying that it opens in IE, my guess is that the extension is .htm or .html. Try this: Open the folder the file is in and go to Tools > Folder Options. Click the "view" tab, and uncheck "Hide Extensions for known file types". Then click OK, and you should see that your file is named (...).flv.htm or (...).flv.html.

[edit]Just so everyone knows, I will be gone today and tomorrow and will not be able to work on the GUI at all. I'll try to get bugs that are reported over the weekend fixed on Monday.

This is a great program. Only problem is that my videos are out of sync too. I tried and avi and mpg, in both the video was a bit slow. Actually....even the Elephant's Dream video on the rockbox site is out of sync....

In which case it's an issue with the mpegplayer plugin, so we will have to wait until it's optimized and/or uses the COP.

Great program!!! Just a quick question, do we put the mplayer folder in the C:\Program Files directory? Also, when I encoded using the .bat file via vlc player by changing some of my .wmv to .mpeg and then encoding them, I found that the video on my player looked like green slime was all over it. :P What I mean, was that you could see the video, but it was totally green for a short period of time, but then it went to normal but with the sound slower than the video. Hopefully this will fix the green color. And thanks again for the program.

Hmmm, before mpegplayer could play audio aswell as video, I was being lazy and transcoded my videos into a smaller 128x96 video, but didn't take out the audio. That caused a lot of green to appear over the video and general breakups in it, I used a MPEG encapsulation, but I can't remember what I told it to use for encoding... Would have been MPEG1 or 2 (Obviously =\), maybe I used the wrong one, which displayed that green... But that's possibly no help what so ever. Ignore me :P.

No, you just run the .exe in the first folder, no need to put anything anywhere.

Yeah, I should've mentioned that. Just extract the folder anywhere and run GUIEncoder.exe. That easy
