Sounds like you have different framerate and bitrate settings in GUIEncode.

Yeah, the different settings would have that affect. Also, notice you are comparing two different players. Even if they have the same bitrate and framerate, they have different screen sizes (although, I suppose that if the files had the same bitrate, it would make no difference).

WinFF seems to use a 224 kbps bitrate (for audio and video...?) for the H10, and a 224 for 4:3 or 256 for 16:9 bitrate for the H300. Also, I'd like to point out that you CAN convert files to play on the H300 using GUIEncode.

OK thank you. I know that I can convert videos for the h300 with this program. But I converted one and for some reason it is played much more worse than ones converted with winff. I don't know why but the skip frames or limit frames option has to skip more frames than with winff video files and that doesn't look good.

Either try using mencoder, or try re-installing VLC. Can you tell me what version of VLC you have?

I have version 0.8.6.0, but I don't think that's it..
see this is the command line:
"C:\Progra~1\VideoLA N\VLC\vlc.exe" %1 --sout=#transcode{vcod ec=mp2v,vb=%VIDBR%,w idth=%WIDTH%,height= %HEIGHT%,acodec=mp3, ab=%AUDBR%,samplerat e=44100,audio-sync}:std{access=fil e,mux=ps,url=%1.mpg} vlc:quit

and this part : {access=file, mux=ps, url=%1.mpg} worries me
since the end is .mpg} i think that's where the problem is..
but it stranges me that I'm the only one who has this problem..

mencoder is out of sync, that's why I want to use vlc.

I've just started using Rockbox and I'm slowly realizing how much better it is than the original firmware. Before I wasn't able to encode videos properly, but now I'm able to see them on my H10, but the only problem is that the audio is out of sync. This is what I did(you may notice something that is wrong): I just downloaded the Upgrade version of the GUI encoder and then used vlc(which I have installed). What do you think is wrong, since others apparently have been able to watch videos that are in sync?

I tried another video and it worked, so maybe it had something to do with the other file.

Problems using vlc

I've had very good results using WinFF for windows, and ffmpegX is a very similar tool for Macs. They're both GUI front ends for ffmpeg, which is more reliable than VLC at least when creating movies (you'll never get one with sound but no video, or at least I never have).
I have tried using vlc with only the upgrade package installed, but what happens is tthat the output file is a very small mp3 file. What am I doing wrong?
Some people here have used winff instead with good results it seems. How do you use it? I have installed it, but the encoder doesn't show up in GUI Encoder?

I'm sorry about asking all these questions, but has anyone successfully encoded films that you were able to play on your H10 5GB with audio in sync.
I'd really appreciate it if someone would tell me exactly how you were able to do it.

Are you shure you set skipframes and limit frames to yes? You have to do that in the mpegplayer menu.

At first it seemed as if that was solution, but after a while the audio was out of sync again. It is as if the video is too slow after a while. Any idea what could be causing it? These are my settings in GUI encoder: video bitrate 400, audio bitrate 128, output 25fps(British show), video codec mp2v, audio codec mp2, width 160, height 128
I have installed vlc and then enode with GUI Encoder? It would just be so great if you were able to watch videos on this little gadget.

I don't think the problem is in GUI Encoder. Play the video on your computer and look if it is out of sync, too.
Did you set both settings to yes, skipframes AND limit frames? If so, I don't know what could be wrong.

I changed the settings you mention. When I play the video on my computer the audio is in sync. Any idea what could be causing this. It would be so great if you were play videos properly on the H10.I think I read somewhere that you have to configure vlc. How do I do that?

Nille.

I'm confused, the mpeg player in H10 plays some videos without problems with audio in sync and sometimes the video slows down which has the effect that the audio gets out of sync. The same video could play back correctly and then the next time the video slows down.
very confusing. Does anybody what to do?

Nille

I read that there was a bug in mpegplayer. Try the latest svn build, maybe that will solve your problem!

Thanks for answering.
SVN (Subversion - the very latest, bleeding edge, build) builds are available on rockbox.org. They have the latest features added and are updated several times each day.

They don't, however, include extras like album art, that requires a custom build and the custom build maintainers aren't working on their builds (As far as i know) right now.

If you can live without album art (Which most people can), go grab the latest build at http://www.rockbox.org/ (Click the SVN Builds option in the menu to the left)

Thanks for your help, but I'm not sure which is the svn build.
Are they here:http://build.rockbox.org/
I downloaded a build from this page and now the video seems to be in sync with the audio, but in the middle of the video it stops playing and I have to start all over again and then it will stop at exactly the same place. Any idea what's causing this?

Yes. That's the SVN build page. Sorry i couldn't be more specific - the site seemed to be down when i posted.

Not really sure what's causing you the troubles. Are you sure the video converted correctly? Did you check it with your PC first? Othersiwe, i'm not sure. You'd have to ask on IRC channel or ask someone more in the know with current builds.
