It's actually really simple to use VLC and the batch file, however, this isn't really the thread to talk about it, but i will anyway.

All you need to do is open up the batch file in Notepad (Right-Click and choose Edit usually)

Then you change the following lines:

Quote:
set WIDTH = 320
set HEIGHT = 240
To the correct dimensions for your player. Then you save it (Make sure you do... and make sure it's still saving as a .bat) and sipyl drag and drop nearly any video onto it.

You do have to download VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) for this to work, just in case you're like one of my mates...

Just use my program. Once you download it, you can click the settings button and click the vlc tab. Then, click save settings and close the settings dialog. Add your videos, if you have an H10 5/6GB, choose it from the dropdown menu and click encode.

They're not. There's instructions on the rockbox wiki http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...e_on_Linux_Mac

I understand your point. There's no simple way for mac users. Unfortunately i can't help you there (i don't own one) except to say, if you have an intel mac, install windows and do it the easy(ish) way =P

Try a program called ffmpegX.

I've had very good results using WinFF for windows, and ffmpegX is a very similar tool for Macs. They're both GUI front ends for ffmpeg, which is more reliable than VLC at least when creating movies (you'll never get one with sound but no video, or at least I never have).

hey there, truejournals!
this is a rather rash action, but oh well ^_^
i just downloaded your GUI encoder, but haven't tried it yet, and was just wondering - does anyone know a general time frame or "game plan" of both/either the Rockbox mpegplayer dev team and truejournals' program?
honestly, i'm not sure if there are still any bugs with TJs, but i do know that mpegplayer is nowhere near finished, what with CPU usage optimization and whatnot ^_^
so yeah, anyone know when they're scheduled to "finish," or is this like an infinite improvement cycle?

Whenever they get around to it, or something happens. There is no timetable for anything with Rockbox.

There is absolutely no timetable for rockbox or my program. My program really depends on how much free time I have, and how much I want to work on it. Like druidfire said, rockbox also is when they get around to it. I believe there is currently only one person really working on mpegplayer.

Woops... that debug window shouldn't have been in there... guess I missed taking that out before I compiled. I'll have to get a mp4 and see if I can get it to encode. In the mean time, can you upload your mp4 somewhere so I can try it out?

I'll try to get a new version out either today or tomorrow.

A Little Help Please. I have been trying this out, but for what ever reason it always saves it as a MP3, not an Mpg. When I play it on my comp, it plays fine, and the video is there. But when I play it on my Iriver it plays as a MP3, No Video. Is there some plugin I need? Thanks.

Yes, that's another bug I found that will be fixed in the next version.. (tomorrow hopefully...?) To fix this, browse to the file using your H10, and hold the circle button while the file is highlighted. Choose "rename", delete the 3 and type g. Then it should play fine.

Thanks. I figured it out, but the video plays really slow, and the audio plays at normal speed. Its not the encode, because I watched it on my computer and it was fine, so it's the H10. Is there any thing else I have to do to stop the lag?

Do you have the svn build and is the skip frames and limit fps enabled?

Have you tried the VLC method? I'm not sure if there's a difference, but try it, it might make a difference.

Hi
I have the problem that some files (avi mostly) wont encode correctly.
Well they encode but then the are really small (only half of what they should be)
and only the sound plays !?
I have the settings set to W=128 H=96 video in mp2v and audio in mp3
I only got one video to convert correctly so far !
I have no clue what I do wrong (or not doing wrong) ?
Thanks

Greets Tim

OK, I think I was a bit lazy when I released 1.5, so I'm releasing the 1.5 bugfix right now.. Currently, there is only one mirror: http://www.jumbodir.com/get/?id=674f...5-d79da97f3569 . I'll either upload this to other mirrors or do some more coding tonight. This package is just like the upgrade package, so you'll need to download either the Full or Basic version, then this. This should fix bugs that have been reported... Let me know.
