Some thoughts about video playback(not the usual ones, I know these ;P )
Hello rockboxers,
I have a question regarding video playback(and no it's not how to encode or how to play it in the H10, I know all these(mom tells me I'm smart all the time :P). When I looked at the "MpegPlayer Plugin" in the rockbox wiki it said that most devices support it(for example - iriver H300) but that the plugin itself DOES NOT SUPPORT AUDIO PLAYBACK. My question is - If the plugin itself does not support audio playback? does that mean the H300 Rockbox users also don't have video with audio? Also, If the MPEGPlayer plugin does not support audio playback, Don't the Devs(bless them) "just need" to write a new video plugin that does support audio? Sorry If I puzzled you with my stupidity, I'll appreciate any answers |

Also, the plan is to use the coprocessor for audio decoding. Unfortunately, for several reasons, they haven't been able to get any further on this as they cannot yet initialize the coprocessor itself. It will be done when someone steps up and work on these things |

So it's nearing the point of being useful. |

I'm curious which coprocessor flyspray page you're talking about. The only one I see (and the only one I know of) has the primary developer saying that threads aren't actually being run on the second core. Which is the case, we still can't get code to execute there independently.
If you've seen somewhere else that actually says it works really well, I'd be curious to see it, as many of the developers would be interested in such advancements. |

This one: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/5755
Scroll down the the bottom of the comments and you'll see the developer has the music decoder playing on the second core. |

Woah! Never seen that... downloading now to make a build to try out...
[edit]Well, now you just need to resize mpeg movies... not also have to worry about removing the sound... but sound still isn't being output (as it says on the patch...). Still, a big step in the right direction

Mad Cow: If you read ALL the way, you see him comment that threads he thought were running on the second core weren't. It does not work.
