Horrible Battery Life - Is This Normal?

Hello, all, I installed the latest Rockbox last night on my 20Gb H10, or at least I think that it's the latest (via the link on this forum). Today I managed to get under 1 HR of battery life playing mostly ALAC files at 65-75% volume with crossfeed on and the original iRiver's firmware's EQ setting with bass boost (not sure if the original EQ setting is in effect).

Is this normal? Under an hour is just not acceptable, but I desperately want Lossless playback.

Hmm i think 1 hour is more th mix of rockbox and a damaged battery...

Yes Rockbox is consuming more battery resources... But normally it runs much longer than one hour...

Some other things:
- Games use moch more power
- Backlight always on uses more power

Thanks, I should note that I set the backlight to turn off after 5 secs. and rarely browse anything. Basically, I just adjust the volume and ocassionally select tracks.

My battery is fine because I get well over 10 hrs. on the iRiver firmware when playing the highest quality WMA VBR files (about 475 kbps or so).

Try converting your ALACs to FLAC. I don't know how efficient our ALAC codec is, but lossless ones require a lot of disk spinups anyway, so since there's no transcode cost you should pick the one that requires the least work to decode.

on my 20G I get about 3-4 hours on a fully charged batt with rockbox, on orig firmware I get over 8 hours easy maybe 10. Can't wait for batt life in rockbox to exceed 8 hours, I will not ever have to use the crappy orig fw again here's to hoping.

I guess that I'm one of only a few people out there who actually plays ALAC on non-iPods. LOL.
