[App] Rockbox font convertor

ROCKbox Font Convertor
BYO fonts for the Open Source Jukebox Firmware.

..:: DETAILS, LINKS AND UPDATES NOW ON THE ROCKBOX WIKI ::..
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...xFontConvertor

After reading the thread about converting fonts in this post, i decided to code a batch file to do the work for me. This is the result, the Rockbox font convertor. It ain't in any way pretty, as it's all in command prompt, but it does the job and does it well and pretty damn fast, too.

More information and a slightly more technical discussion of this can be found at the Rockbox Forums, [Here]

The Wiki page contains all the links and details you should need. See it [Here]

If not, feel free to ask a question here or at the thread on the Rockbox forums. That thread has so far had more technical discussion, but it's up to you.

Cheers Guys,
iwantanimac

It is great lol. Only just noticed this though since i only look at the H300's rockbox section usually.

I cant seem to get it working however. It starts coverting and then just says at each section 'otf3bdf is not recognised....' same with convbdf.

Say i want to convert VERDANA.TTF, thats in the same directory as the .bat etc, what exaclty would i enter into the command prompt window?

Does it work for "full unicode" fonts? I need cyrillic support for some of my tracks, and some of the fonts ive made with convbdf haven't kept these characters...

I'm pretty sure it works! At least it worked perfectly on the Credits screen (As long as the original font had those characters) And with Rinocerose (I cant be bothered with the alt codes) so yeah, hopefully.

Is drag and drop working for anyone?

If anyone has any ideas for it, that would be great, and if anyone know how to implement any of the features i have listed, that would be awesome, too. Drag 'n drop is really bugging me.

Code:
makefont VERDANA.TTF
That's all! Not sure why you would get that error tho...

Thanks for this! As you can see in my thread that gave you the idea to make this program I couldn't figure out how to get a working font. You saved me. A million times thanks. I didn't see this until now because I never browse the general rockbox forum, just the H3xx forum, my bad. Your program actually works, and it's easy to use as well, a great accomplishment IMO.

I was finally able to convert a few fonts to the proper fnt filetype rockbox recognises. Unfortunately, most fonts came out rather ugly when faced with the compression needed to be used in rockbox. However, I think one font came out rather nice, and as of now it's my standard font.

It's a truetype font I found while browsing fonts in OpenOffice. It's called Bitstream Vera Serif Bold (I am using the standard Bitstream Vera Serif (not bold) as well, but the bold one looks a little bit nicer IMO).

Wow, thanks for the feedback! Glad I could help you out. My main concern in making this was that it was rather difficult to do it on your own - and it was a bit complicated, so that's why i made it.

I think now that people have commented I'll try to tweak the setup so that it looks a bit better. As i said before I could really use someone with some DOS scripting know-how to help me out with this. a GUI is something i think now would just be unnecessary, unless someone really wants it.

Are you trying to run it in MS-DOS? Just put the program in a folder, put the font you want to convert in the same folder. Then navigate to the folder in MS-DOS and say makefont <font you want to convert>, for example: makefont bimini.ttf

I don't realy see how i can make it more obvious...

Anyone think a GUI is worth the extra effort, space and memory requirement?

Look two posts above yours, I explained it there. If you have more precise questions, please ask.

Don't click on the program itself. Open MS-DOS instead, and navigate to the folder you put the program in. Do you know how to do that with MS-DOS? Then put the file you want to convert in the same folder and say: makefont <the file you just put in the folder>, e.g. makefont times.ttf
