Random directory?
hi there,
i just filled my h340 up with my collection and am working on the possibilities of shuffling my mp3s. I know how to shuffle all files by making a playlist of my whole music directory. but is it also possible to make it choose a random directory and then play it in the right order? while thinking about it, I would have to make a playlist of each directory and then pick a random playlist. is there a way to make automatised playlist for each directory? Can you shuffle playlists? Many thanks for every input! Cheers from Vienna |

I reloaded the latest build last night and was having a play around, and I found that the
General Settings -> Playback -> Auto-Change Directory setting now has a "Random" setting. Given that this governs what to do after playing contents of directory, this may be what you're after. I haven't tried it at all, so i may be barking up the wrong tree, but it sounds liek it may fit the bill. |

nice idea, but as far as i understand the manual (i haven't tried it yet) this function switches to the next directory after reaching the end, but not on a random level. this way i can listen to all directories in the order they are on the hdd.
i would appreciate it if rockbox picks a random directory and plays it, then picks another random directory. would be great! thanks anyway! |

Wouldn't the term "random" entail a random selection? I know "auto-change directory" does indeed go in order of what's on the DAP, so prehaps "random" means a random selection. Logic would dictate so, but I could be mistaken, will try it out this evening.
