Rio Dj features?
Hey guys,
I've had a Rio Karma running my home music for about a year and 3/4, while I've been using H120 for a year & a 1/2 for mobile audio, and using Rockbox since the earliest releases. I would say Rockbox now does <almost> everything I require. BUT! For anyone who's ever used a Karma, you know how great the <Rio DJ> is. For those who haven't, you can't imagine how flexible it is. On my H120, I have a total playlist, let's say 3000 tracks ( I actually use it mostly for audiobooks in the car). So say I'm in town or walking the dogs, when I listen to music. And put the 3000 on shuffle. How long would it take to listen to everything? So There's lots on there I may NEVER hear (And I only put on stuff I really like) On the Karma, apart from random/track/etc, you can play for example New Music, by Day, Week or Months, . (How often have you loaded stuff sometime in the last month, and then forgotten what it was?). New Music is the one Option I'd now request on Rockbox. Also on Rio DJ, there's also Entertain Me! by time slots from 15 mins to everything, which is actually different from a Random Mix, as Entertain Me chooses from most played music first. Memory Lane; choose tracks you haven't heard from 1 day to 1 year, Forgotten Gems (again by time) to Deja Vu, (the opposite, pay tracks that <have> been played, by time), and some basic other options also. Sin a bhfuil an cursai spoirt, (that's it). Interested if anyone is thinking along these lines. Regards Donal |

This is pushing my memory but I remember reading something on rockbox.org about plans to implement these modes on all rockbox players in time.
I'm open to correction though. |

Something similar to these features could be set up using Databox in the past. It was a plugin that let you create searches that would automatically generate a playlist based on instructions such as "Songs newer than X date that have been played less than Y times" or whatever. This functionality isn't available right now because with the move to TagCache, the runtime database is not functional anymore, it but is planned to be reimplemented, and of course improved.

Danfried, thanks.
I actually do already use MM on my PC BUT: I only like to sync the hard way, drag and drop, partly because I have more music on my PC that I don't want on my iRiver. Also, I ofhen dither a bit about what I'm copying on, so the whole auto synchro option in MM is not for me, apart fromt he fact that I get MM database errors with my iH120 anyway. The great thing about Rio DJ is that once the stuff is on there's no playlist management required. All the various options I mentioned, plus other I didn't, require a differnt playlist to be setup in MM & iH120. On the Rio Karma, that's part of the OS management. For example setting up some kind of playlist that plays songs that HAVEN'T been played for x number of days, weeks, months? Not really a playlist feature. Thanks anyway though. |
