Fantastic! When setting up the website for Rockipedia, can I use this as the logo? If so, could you provide me with a version of the file which has a white background?

Thanks,
Connell

I'm sure it will be. You'll just need to convert the german version.

But there may be a problem with searching for some of the silly german letters that aren't part of the english alphabet, just a guess though.

For me it is "working". But this only means that I'm able find and view articles using the rockbox text viewer.

So when reading an article, you see a lot of wiki code which is used in the wikipedia articles.

Because of special characters, some files weren't copied to the rockbox device.

I have 29221 folders...
Thus I think it may be better to use one big file, because of the special characters, case-sensitiveness of FAT and the rockbox directory cache.
As I said in my previous post the folders need some more space than expected.

No, the "æ" was the one I was specifically thinking of. I don't speak it so I don't know the alphabet enough to guess at more.

There are only four characters, which are not in the english alphabet: ä ö ü and ß.
So in general what is with other languages than english. How can other characters been fit in?

btw the screenshots look promising!

found this on the wiki,,hopefully of some help

International Phonetic Alphabet

The symbol [æ] is also used in the International Phonetic Alphabet to denote the sound of the Old English letter, a near-open front unrounded vowel, as in word cat in many dialects of modern English. In this context, it is always in lowercase.
[edit]

Computer use

For computers, when using the Latin-1 or Unicode sets, the codes for 'Æ' and 'æ' are respectively 0198 and 0230, as well as 146 and 145, respectively (holding down the ALT key whilst typing in 0198 or 146 on the number pad will produce the character on Windows systems and holding down the option or alt key whilst typing an apostrophe (') on a United States Macintosh keyboard), or C6 and E6 in hexadecimal.

There is also Cyrillic Ӕ ӕ in Unicode (U+04D4, U+04D5), though in practice the Latin letters Æ and æ (U+00C6, U+00E6) are used in Cyrillic texts (such as on Ossetian sites in the Internet).

In HTML, the HTML character entity references &AElig; and &aelig; have been assigned to Æ and æ, respectively.

Hi Connell, I just took a look at the website- I have one small concern. Is the encoding you're using for things like bold text etc. going to conflict with actually having numbers in the stripped down webpages? For example if I have something like:
1. This is the first point.
2. This is the second point.
3. This is a third point.

will it appear onscreen as:

This is the first point
This is the second point.
This is a third point

Why not stick with the old-school html tags "<U></U>" etc.? Would that not be simplier in the end?

Great work with how things are coming along so far, btw, the scree shots look great, I can't wait to try out your first release.

Lightbulb

I was also wondering about the same. I also figured he knew what he was doing.

While Connell is off working on the plugin I was wondering if there are any Java programmers out there willing to do a little work in preparing the data properly.

I have looked into what is required, and it's not much. The current method Connell is using seems very...uhmm.. unnecessary.

What simply needs to be done is to take the needed archive, in our case enwiki-pages-articles (available here: http://download.wikimedia.org/ ) and parse it into Connell format. Fortunately there already exists tools to do this. All we would have to do is write a new filter class for the tool MWDumper (download here: http://download.wikimedia.org/tools/ Readme Here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MWDumper )

(please see my user talk page on the rockipedia site for some detail as to how I came to this conclusion -- discussion with wikipedia dev)

Once we have the tool modified we can run it and have the data ready in a few hours!

I'm not very good at this wiki business so if they're any competent people out there interested, please put your effort on the site (http://rockipedia.techmight.com)

Regarding the tag format...

Sorry about the confusion. Everything in computers is represented by numbers. Text is no different so back when computers became more powerful some institute somewhere created the ASCII code system. This means that computers can map a number to each letter so that it can store text. In ASCII, the letter A is represented by the number 65 (if my memory serves me correctly), B by 66, C by 67 etc etc. There are loads of other numbers which which have no visible letter associated with them. My format uses these numbers to define the formatting. For example the ASCII code 2 does not point to any visible letter. Conversely the letter '2' is stored by ASCII code 50. This basically means that you can have any visible text in my format and there isn't clash with the formatting.

More details on ASCII here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCII

Regards,
Connell

Connel: With your method the characters have to be ASCII, so it will be impossible to use any other character.

Moogy: I meant the german alphabet. There are needed much other characters in other languages (like é à â î ... in french) So this would reduce the plugin to be only usable in english.

btw I'll look into the conversion
