iP0d Audio Driver Working
OK, so it was really only a matter of time, but the Rockbox Devs have commited the 1st audio driver for the iP*d;
Quote:
I personally like the FM Radio and Optical I/O's on my iHP, however the LCD Remote is virtually unusable (and there's no way I'm switching to the stock firmware just to be able to use it) which means those are pretty much the only things that the iHP has over a 5G. It's likely everything else Rockbox-wise will be available on the for the iP*d (Gapless, OTF Playlists etc.) ... Comments please, MU4L |

maybe some folks who have expired, lost or stolen non ibod DAP's might consider going with a bitten apple ( there's a adam and eve story there somewhere), it is after all the most common player available in the western world, if statistics are anything to go by, hence making them cheap and available second hand, also spares are readily available, and now that Rockbox is working for it, it will now have a decent OS (Rockbox). I dont neccessarily dislike the ibod, it just doesn't appeal to me I have two H140's and I dont think I'll purchase another DAP for a long time to come, maybe I'll buy another player if it has hardware that impresses, like a digital amp, (which the kenwood has and I'm eyeing), if they make a 40 gig version of their HD20GA7 (this kenwood is unfortunately only available in japan), maybe..... but then there's the firmware, I love rockbox, wonder if the Rockbox chaps would consider the kenwood for porting
link to the kenwood, its all in japanese, sadly. It appears to be the most audiophile DAP on the market. http://www.kenwood.com/j/products/ho...sonal/hd20ga7/

I posted a while back at the Rbx forums in regards to seeing pics/video of Rbx on the ipod. Anyone?

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...odInstallation Rockbox on the iPod still has a lot of rough edges, so "usable" is a matter of opinion. But audio playback (even AAC) is now working. |

If anything, this might allow us to pick up a 2nd/backup DAP a little cheaper. I haven't checked ebay & the likes, but I'd imagine that the # of ipods out there might turn into decent deals. Might pick a small HDD-based ipod for the wife once Rockbox gets sorted for it.

will not find me alive with an ip*d in my pocket.
i see no need to replace my H320, for as i am planning to stick around with it forever, even if it means changing the battery, and maybe even the hard drive. now if i *were* to buy a replacement, most likely it would be: Cowon X5 OR Zen Vision OR Gmini 402

For my money, the biggest reason not to buy an iPod was the inability to drag music off the player. That will be possible with Rockbox.
Its biggest attraction is its slimmer form factor. A 40 Gb iPod is slimmer than my H320....and of course that is now a 60 Gb a

Anyways, gmini402 is really nice, my cousin was forced to replace his H300 for one. It looks really nice imo. The gmini400 has an extra to it, and that's the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear emulator. No current emulator has been produced for the gmini402s though |
