Febs you removed 'quick submenu' info from wiki ??

Hi Febs,

I notice that you removed the references to the quick submenus that were on the wiki (under main menu), now there is no mention of these submenus on the wiki, (unless I'm blind, which is probable), any chance of putting them back, if you don't have the time, tell me where you think they should go and I'll list them

I replied to your PM on the same topic. In a nutshell, there is already an entire wiki page regarding the Quick Menu. In fact, read the sentence that immediately precedes the changes that you made:

Thank for the pm, but the only reason i pm'd you was because this post only appeard 1.5 hours after posting, infact if another identical post pops up please delete as I thought this one was lost in cyberspace...now...

Maybe I'm not explaining myself, all the little submenus I think need to be listed as many folks dont know they exist, I am not refering to the a-b quick menu only here. I dont see these quick submenus, or whatever you want to call them listed in the wiki. that was my intention with listing them under main menu, (and I did specify H1xx), because the 'mini's' ARE menus as well, no ?

OK, I understand at least part of our communication gap now. You are using the term "quick menus" generically, while I thought that you were referring to the menu that had that specific name.

The menu that is accessed by pressing and holding the A-B button is called the "Quick Menu." There is already an entire chapter in the WikiManual that is devoted to the Quick Menu.

The menu that is accessed by pressing and holding the joystick (H100) or NAVI button (H300) is called the "File Menu." There is already an entire chapter in the WikiManual that is devoted to the File Menu.

There is a chart that shows which buttons do what in the Quick Start Guide. This chart already contains all of the information that you added to the main menu page except for the page up/page down shortcut. I suggest that you add that key combination to the chart here.

All of these WikiManual chapters are listed on the front page of the WikiManual. I have tried whereever possible to cross-reference all of those pages. If you want to help improve the useability of the WikiManual, one of the things that I think would be very helpful is to put in crosslinks to the different menus where I have missed them. For example, all of the references in the chart on the QuickStart page to the WPS should be cross-linked to the CustomWPS wiki page.

In an ideal world, there would also be a navigation pane on the left so that a reader could jump from one chapter to another but I don't believe that there is any way to accomplish this with the current Rockbox wiki.

your link to the file menu is u/s trythis one

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...lete_Directory

neither of those sections descrribes the additional functions available,

1). when browsing dir's/files: long joystick press + play button = verrryy fast scrolling of dir/files.
2). In wps: a long joystick press = submenu.
3). In browse mode excluding wps: long joystick press = another submenu.

I fixed the bad link.

With respect to your points:

1. This is what I referred to as the page up/page down feature. I agree that this should be added. I think that it should go in the chart on the QuickStart page.

2 and 3. I'll have to check (I don't have my player handy), but I believe that both of these go to the file menu, but that some file menu options are not available when you enter the menu from the WPS and some are not available when you enter it through the file browser. My point is that the File Menu wiki page is where these should be described, but we may need to be more explicit on that page about which options are available in each instance. Maybe we even want to move the chart from the QuickStart page to a separate "Navigating Rockbox" or "File Browser" wiki page (the file browser is the root menu of Rockbox). However, I do not believe that the Main Menu page is the right place for them.

I really dont mind where it appears, but....the whole/(lack of some menus) menu theme seems very fractured at this stage, could do with some rationalising.

Well, the good news is, there are so many features and so many NEW ones that it's hard to keep up with them at times.
