I tried a search on this board and couldn't find anything and I also tried the rockbox site (although I still find it hard to navigate). But my question is, what does the battery capacity option do in the firmware?

You are supposed to set the battery capacity setting to the actual mAh of the battery in your player. It is used to calculate the remaining battery time.

BlaqReaper, I'm not sure where you looked on the Rockbox site, but the answer to your question is in the online manual: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...ttery_Capacity. The manual is organized exactly like the menus in Rockbox.

I have a problem with this feature.
I recently upgraded my H300 battery to a 1900mAh, bought from DAPStore: http://www.dapstore.com/pd1112472628.htm?categoryId=2 It works a treat with the original iRiver firmware — I can leave the player running all day and the battery meter doesn’t even move (around 20+ hours of playing time.) Unfortunately, the Rockbox firmware reports only 13 hours remaining on the 1900 mAh setting (the battery specification) when the battery is fully charged. What is even more bizarre is that when I set the mAh value to the maximum (around 3500 I think) Rockbox reports a more realistic 22 hours, but it goes down twice as fast than at 1900. In other words, it seems like Rockbox still thinks I am using a stock-specification battery. Even more unusual is that when I boot to the original iRiver firmware through the Rockbox bootstrap, it exhibits a similar problem! Like the issue has been inherited or something. I hope this is enough information for you to go on, and I hope the issue can be checked out. Thanks in advance for any help.

Mr B,
Because Rockbox is as of yet unoptomised it drains the battery faster than the iRiver FW does. So 13 hrs instead of 20 is prob right. While changing the battery capacity value to its max of 3200mAh seems to give you the time you would expect it's not where it should be set. Having it set to this is what makes your battery seem to drain twice as fast. Set it back to 1900mAh to get a more accurate time remaining reading. As for the prob carrying across to the iRiver FW, I didn't think it should but if it is the reason I'd say is beyond me anyway! But have you tried flashing a new un-Rockboxed copy of 1.29 or whatever version you're using to see if that solves it?

Plus the battery calculations are unfinished as well. They're still being tweaked to get the most accurate readings.
