I was just thinking how you often get many songs you like but where the most rocking or amazing part is in the middle or at the end and the rest is just building up to this 'climax' or amazing bit. It would be amazing if someone could produce a special playlist that for each song entry also references a start and end point within that song to play back within that playlist. Also like a normal song playlist it would be subject to playlist playback options like repeat/shuffle although of course within this special type of playlist only excerpts within songs chosen by the user would be played, rather than whole songs.
So if a normal playlist was like this (and I'm making the example up): 1. A classical piece[5:09] 2. A folk song [4:53] 3. A rock song [6:58] it might turn into this, with the extra 'start' and 'end' times showing where to begin and end playback of that special moment. 1. A classical piece[5:09|2:18-4:58] 2. A folk song [4:53|1:32-2:47] 3. A rock song [6:58|0:26-1:39] 4. A rock song [6:58|4:11-5:46] (same one so of course at this point it checks if the entry is the same song to try and save wasting time accessing the hd if it isn't needed) Obviously I don't know how the RB playlist is set out and I don't know if expanding it or adding an extra version with a 'start' & 'end' optional part for each track entry will be too hard or not in demand as regards the above idea. But this could be amazing to either get all the good parts of music of a certain type to listen to or to perhaps study if you are a musician or maybe show off to friends the best a band or genre or your whole player has to offer. |

I deleted your other attempt at this thread. All of the posts in this section must be moderated. So you have to be patient before they appear.
Doing it twice wont make it happen more quickly. But it may make me more likely to just delete both copies during the moderation process. Not deliberately, really. Just an accident. I promise. And I am not protesting too much am I? Really? I hope you understand I wouldnt do something like that on purpose..... a

Fair enough. I actually thought I had a connection problem and coming back later it didn't appear either. But now I know in future. Hmm perhaps I would get a better response if at all from anyone who may be able to make this happen if I post in the proper RB forums. Oh I'm sure you wouldn't do that either Andrew, you must get quite a lot of duplicates from unsuspecting first time posters in this particular forum, so if you did just 'kill on sight' I wouldn't take offence.

Your thought is an interesting idea, though I don't (and I'm a technical programming illiterate) how they'd do it. The thing about the favorite part is that it's a user preference. What I've considered doing is dropping songs like that into my favorite program for manipulating songs (Audacity) and cutting out what I don't want to hear, or copying that special section and putting it in a new song file. I'm thinking about the last part of "Spirit Slips Away" by The Grassy Knoll. I've used Audacity where I kept the instrumental blues part of "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd and let it fade before the lyric "Remember when we were young..." I'm going to string a lot of these what I call "breakdowns" together someday. You could also use them as interludes. Glad to hear someone's thinking like me. I hope this isn't considered off-track of your idea as far as programming. |
