Hey.
Ive been following rockbox for a while, and it sounds and looks great. I'm only shitting my pants for installing the firmware and the bootloader... Scared as hell that i will trash my Iriver, and will not be able to use it anymore. How big is this risk, etc. Thanks in advance Stormingsoul |

Yes. Rockbox also has dual boot capability, so that you can boot to the iriver firmware without needing to remove Rockbox. Even if you do decide to use the iriver firmware instead of Rockbox, you should keep the Rockbox bootloader on your player because it has some advantages over the iriver firmware. For more information, follow the "Sources of Information About Rockbox" link in my signature to the ManualRockboxInstall page.

I'm currently running the 10-30-2005 build of Rockbox, and used the Noob guide depicted here to install it. Rock solid. The builds since this time only really added stuff that's not quite ready for use (like AAC and FLAC functionality, neither of which is quite there yet). I say start with this build and keep an eye on the daily builds for when they stablize the newer features or improve existing features before upgrading further.
But definitely do it. TOTALLY worth it. I haven't bothered booting back into the iRiver firmware yet, since it's weak in comparison. > |
