hi at all the rockbox coders!

as we know that crossfading is no problem i was thinking about how to use the possibility to play two songs at once for a (short) time to implement a (cd)-dj-like handling:

what if you can switch on a mode where the next song starts e.g. when you press -> but with the difference that the current song plays til its end or alternatively fades out (for the amount of seconds you specified before)...

this would nearly simulate to the situation if you had two cd players and a mixing desk and one can act as a cd-dj just with one iriver-player.

i'd assume not, since he said he seems to have experience with the RB firmware, and his posts back that up. and it'd be a bit early for feature discussion on the 3xxs.

Anything to crossfade like windows media player for the H3xx would be sooooo awesome! My parties would just sound so seamless with a playlist and a crossfader!

Yeah that was the one I recommended many moons ago, I drew a little image when I did here Option A is crossfade, B is mix..

but.. I also recommended a DJ feature where you could, while a song is playing, browse and listen to a song you may want to put on through the headphone jack and have the other music that everyone else hears coming out of the line/optical out port , then you could pause it at the time you want them to mix together and go from song X to Y.

Let me explain that a little better..

At a party, you will have your H connected to the speakers through the optical out/line out jack. While the music is playing non stop through the speakers, you can browse (just like you usually would) your tracks and albums. You can then press a button that will open a little plug-in that will play a track through the headphone jack port which you will have your headphones connected to. This will not interfere with the music playing through the speakers but you can ff/rw to get to the desired part of the song you then press a button that will add it to the playlist as the next song and will mix it in at the desired point of the song or else you can just pick the point and it will mix in when the current song is finished.

This way if you have a great dance track or something that has a long intro with not much action, you can skip that and mix it in at the part that will keep the dancers happy and the party alive.

This would also be very handy, and I thought of it at a party on Saturday night when I didn't know the name of a song on an Album. I wanted to add a song by a particular artist to a playlist at a party but didn't know which of the tracks on the album was the one I wanted. With this feature I would have been able to listen to it through the headphone jack while the rest of the party was hearing the music through the optical/line out port.

I think I should start my own thread with this request

But I must say, the mix in the crossfade option makes SUCH a difference as it already is to a party. I had my H blasting out the tunes, non stop music, brilliant, then some dude came along and wanted to put on his playlist from his iPod, song, gap, song, gap. Same with my brother when he hooked up his H3XX hehe.

Great job rockboxers!!

Maybe you should be asking when is the H320/340 bootloader out? There are still ~35 compile errors for the bootloader so it'll be a while yet.

So discussing wish-list features at this time is pointless.

I don't know who that post was directed to but I'm talking about the H1XX since the H3XX doesn't even have optical out

As I understand it it is impossible to send different sound to the line/optical out and headphone ports.
