Attn Noobs: Rockbox is very easy to use!

Well, I finally did it...I installed Rockbox on my H120. First off, I myself am a complete noob about these sort of things and was very hesitant to install Rockbox. But after browsing the forums for a few months, and seeing the incredible progress that has been made, I decided to take the plunge. A huge amount of credit goes to west.acre for supplying a very easy-to-follow instruction guide to installing Rockbox (found here: rockbox for beginners??).

Holding my breath, I rebooted my iRiver and waited for Rockbox to render my h120 into a brick. Of course, nothing of the sort happened, and 3 seconds(!) after I had pressed the power button, my iRiver had booted into the Rockbox menu. Going from a 45 second boot time using the original iRiver firmare to a 3 second boot time using the Rockbox firmware is a very exhilarating feeling!

Now that I have used Rockbox for a few days, I can definitively state that it blows the original firmware out of the water. I love the fact that I can now create playlists on the fly, rather than having to plug into a computer. I love the fact that I can have a customized WPS (I'm using this one: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...lastairCassell).
I especially love the plugins that Rockbox comes with, i.e. Rockboy (Gameboy games on my iRiver, wooohooo!).

Well, that's my impression of Rockbox, and I truly recommend all you noobs to use it. The user interface is very simple and easy to use. And if you need to use the original iRiver firmware for any reason, all you have to do is reboot the h120 and press 2 buttons to do so!

My hat's off to the developers!

Exactly... my sentiments right after I took the plunge!

Rockbox actually is causing me grief in my life. It is so much fun designing WPSs, so I am having to take time away from the other things I do, like Xbox, work, yard work, home repair, coin collecting, duties for the wife, and web page design. Darn you, Rockbox team!

Hello Ally I'm a noob too and I didn't even find instructions to install it, I somehow managed it though. And now I have my own WPS, made 2 so far, getting slightly more ambitious
