Battery length?

Is a battery length equal to or greater than what you get with iRiver's firmware planned? If so, is someone working on it now, or planning on working on it before the August 22nd feature freeze? Or, is it an ongoing thing? Thanks.

Hmm...I guess no one knows, or this topic was glazed over.

I was wondering about this too. Mine says 16 hours. Is this really true? Has anyone done any tests yet? And does it still have that problem with the battery discharging too much?

When I tested, I got about 13 hours and 40 minutes. That was about a month ago. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to test the iriver firmware to see how it compares.

Obviously it depends on what bitrates/codecs you are using, but I seem to be getting roughly the same if perhaps slightly less battery life than from iRiver firmware (i.e around 12 hrs for lame mp3 alt-preset standard), but bare in mind that all of the code has not been fully optimised, so you may see better battery life in the future.

Rockbox battery usage is affected by a number of things I believe, one of which is your WPS. If you have alot of scrolling and have the Peak and Time meters on, it will drain a little quicker. I have found that I keep changing things and after hooking it up a few times via USB, the battery level drops substantially, so the USB connection takes a hit. Also, I am not sure how Rockbox changed the accessing of the next song and buffering, there might be an impact due to that implementation as well.

Of course, I am a RB newbie, so take my observations at what they are worth (not much).
