OK, I'll ask it here... Can a id3 MOD be made/added to RockBox?
Is it possible to add the functionality to a modded OS for the 120 (or any other iRiver player) that allows you to set up playlists or structure trees based on id3 tag, rather than pure file name? Obviusly, all of the MP3 player software apps (Winamp, Musicmatch, etc.) build their media libraries from the songs' id3 tag info, as do other players such as the Rio Karma.
Is there a technical limitation in the iRiver (perhaps the 52-character file name limit?) that makes this impossible? I'm just pulling that out of my... erm, you know, but I did notice that when I switched to iRiver from the Karma, there were a TON of files that I had to edit because the file names were lnger than 52 charactres, a fact that never bothered my Rio in the least, since everything it did to build directory trees was based in id3 tags. Just wondering! Thanks! |

try using ihptool to create the database. i believe it allows you to set the chracter limit to 64, instead of 52. rockbox should be able to remove the limit, and they will have otf playlists, which would allow you to make playlists by genre manually, albeit on the player
