All of these volume-adjusters are ReplayGain algorithm based. MP3Gain: scans and actually adjusts the global gain field of the mp3's headers. The result is a permanent but reversible volume change that is read by all players that play mp3. Only accurate to every 1.5dB however. AACGain: scans and actually adjusts the global gain field of the AAC file's headers. The result is a permanent but reversible volume change that is read by all players that play AAC. Only accurate to every 1.5dB however. VorbisGain: scans and adds values to the file as Vorbis comments. Only read by players that understand ReplayGain tags. foobar2000: able to add replaygain tags to any file format, even if the file doesn't support it natively; however, in that case usually only foobar2000 can read the adjustments. Only does tag values and not MP3Gain/AACGain style adjustments. foobar2000 adds the tags in this way for different file formats mp1, mp2, and mp3: ID3v2 or APEv2 tags Ogg Vorbis: Vorbis Comments Musepack: File header AAC: APEv2 tags AAC in MP4 container: MP4 tags FLAC: Vorbis Comments (alternatively called FLAC tags) WavPack: APEv2 tags Monkey's Audio: APEv2 tags Rockbox can read ReplayGain tags on most of the filetypes it can read, however for mp3 it can only read ID3v2 tags. Hope this helps

But make sure you post it in our FAQs as well.
I know that the wiki is hosted at misticriver. And may even take over the FAQs, but we have put some work into the FAQs and making sure people visit them and the wiki isnt ready to take over yet. a

Any takers to do an FAQ on this. It would need to include a list of Rippers for video on the H300s, include something on audio ripping on Macs, and DB programs and what not, you dont have to do a full FAQ you can start it and someone else finish it just do what you know.
Need one for the H10 H300 H100 and PMP models A |

I'm the owner of an iBook 800 G3, and I'm proud to report that the h120 works with OS X completely, thanks to a program called iRiver Sync. It syncs not only your iTunes music, but all of your playlists as well. And it can all be searched by the iRiver database. The one problem is that once you use this program, your iTunes music is the only music your iRiver will recognize because iRiver Sync creates the database file based only on your iTunes music. This program can also sync RSS feeds, and any other files that you choose, so you could use it for daily backups. Check it out!!

american brit - Try reading what you posted and then take a look at the top of the forum you posted in. "FAQ Requests" you need to post this in the H10 section which can be found going to www.misticriver.net/forums.php

I guess a couple of well placed answers to rather simple questions, plus my near constant pimping of iFish have mislead some people. |

Hi,
Just a quick comment: AVI is in no way a codec! It is a file format. Short for Audio Video Interleave, AVI is an old file format for Microsoft's Video for Windows standard. Another (newer) one is ASF. The file format defines how content is stored in the file, not how the content is encoded. AVI, ASF, MOV, ADIF, ADTS are file formats. MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, H263, H264, MP3, AAC, OGG, AC3 are codecs. This is very important to understand, since a "player" can understand the file format (AVI for example) but it can be unable to handle the content stored inside the file format (for example an AC3 audio track, even stored in an AVI file, can not be decoded by the U10) Regards. |

I have a 15 month old 512MB N10. The battery used to last 10+ hrs, but now less than three hours. The factory has already denied a waranty replacement.
I want to replace the battery and I am wondering if this is something I can do myself? If so, are there "how to's" documented? Or, must I return to the factory? How much should I expect to pay. |

Some aftermarket replacement batteries work better than others or have specific quirks or problems. A running list of the batteries that have been successfully transplanted into iRiver players would be most helpful.
The information I'd like to see is: * brand * fit (how well or poorly the battery fit in the player) * polarity (whether or not it needed to be switched) * price (not necessary) * performance I'm personally interested in the H320 player's battery, but it looks like owners of other players are starting to be curious about this too as their players age. I think this is actually a good idea. After 8 months of using my H340 it is starting to look decidedly untidy. I had a single folder (Muzik) with all my MP3s and a folder (Playlist) with all my playlists based on my favourite tracks from the Muzik folder. (I also have an Image folder for pictures, Video golder for videos and Stored folder for files which were being stored temporarily). Every time i dowload an albulm i create a folder in the format Artist - Albulm and a playlist in the format Artist - Albulm.m3u in the root directory so that i can decide what tracks to retain and which ones to delete (no point filling up the player with music i'll never listen to.) The tracks i'd keep are then transferred to the Musik folder and the playlist edited according or altered to include other tracks. After 8 months of doing this and moving on to the Rockbox firmware, the directory structure is looking confusing and untidy and is probably slowing the player down. Can anyone suggest a more efficient method of storing these files. Ta |

I would like to request a modification of a closed faq thread
http://www.misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=33996 I find this way easier, using a freeware program to sort files and winamp to make the playlist. Step 1: Sorting all files into directories by the first letter can be done much faster and more easily by using a free file called filesieve2. Search for filesieve2.zip and you should find it. Then point filesieve at your PMP's audio directory (e:\audio\ for me) and tell it to output to the same directory, click next and click next again. It will run in about 2 minutes for my 1100 songs but I didn't do any of the work. Step 2. Open winamp and clear any songs from its playlist. Then add directory and add e:\audio including subdirectories this will add all the songs in the new subdirectories. Step 3. Have winamp save the playlist right onto e:\audio as "songs.m3u". Step 4. Disconnect the USB cord, power the PMP up, go to music, go to the audio folder, go the the songs.m3u (go up instead of down so you don't have to pass the whole alphabet), hold the select button, load the playlist, switch to the playlist using the b button and press play. If you have your player set to shuffle, it will randomly play songs on the playlist regardless of what folder they are in. |

Folder structure same as A_Music.
Z_Music - Music that doesn't fit into an album. ie single songs.
Artist - Track.whtevr
Z_Storage - Folder I use for storing files on the HD.
Grouped in folders by type or use and whatever is necessary.
dynamic.m3u*
H300.hex* (Unrockboxed 1.29K in case something goes horribly wrong)
rockbox.iriver*
Ask yourself: What do use most? How do you listen to your music? By artist, album, genre? How much music do you have? Divide music up into A-M, N-Z? Which folders do you use most? Do you care what order the folders appear in? (Most used near the top and bottom?) Are you as anal as me about all this?? Hope it helps.
