I thinks there's not too much to know about it except this:
1.) http://www.pdainternalbattery.com/iriverinstall.html <--- directions about replacing the battery 2.) You have to use a Lithium Polymer and NOT lithium ion. 3.) You can use ipod 1gen and 2gen batteries but have to switch the wires in the plug around in order to install correctly. 4.) The original battery is 1450 mAh, so anything above that is an upgrade. Most of this info was in this thread: http://www.misticriver.net/boards/sh...284#post197284 There's probably more to know, but I think this thread answers most questions. Maybe somebody could make a more fancy FAQ with some more detailed answers?

A good FAQ might be an exahaustive list of features in current firmware
and ones that have been promised in future firmware. Separate these into US and non-US models. I have read a great deal here trying to make a purchase decision and still some things are not clear. I think the following are true statements but can't be positive: 1. The current US H340 has a clock - but the unit cannot be used as an alarm clock. 2. The current US model has a some sort of shuffle feature but it is not "true" shuffle. What does that mean? What can it do, and what can it not do? Given the above and what seems like easy features to add (contact list, events calendar, etc) you might want to add a FAQ as to the state of mind over at iRiver HQ. In otherwords, is the player limited in someway that makes obvious features difficult to implement? Or are they understaffed? What is the logic behind the decisions to make the US and non-US have substantially different feature set? |

As for iRiver HQ you have to ask them that, but expect to get no sense out of them. |

H320. Shuffle. Is there any way to set the machine to shuffle all files in this directory and all subdirectories without going up to the other directories at the same level as the beginning directory? ie
\MP3s \MP3s\A-K \MP3s\L-Z \MOVIES Can I shuffle all the MP3s directories and subdirectories without it including the movies directory? If not, is there any hope of iRiver including this in the next firmware, because it's a pretty major problem if you can only shuffle ONE directory or ALL directories. (Particularly if you have movies on there; you'll be listening to music and suddenly it'll stop to load up a movie.) |

Q: I get a FILE CHECK ERROR, what do I do?
A: iFP models have 2 kinds of firmware: manager and UMS. Manager firmwares use the Manager software provided by iriver (downloadable from www.iriver.com) to transfer music, set radio stations, change song order, format the player, etc. UMS firmware cannot be recognized by the Manager software but will be recognized as a removable storage device in My Computer without any software necessary. All players are preloaded with the manager firmware when purchased. However, along the way after using the UMS firmware, you might decide that you want the quicker transfer speeds offered by using the Manager software with the manager firmware so you go from UMS firmware to Manager firmware. This is where you get the FILE CHECK ERROR. Once you have the manager firmware on your player, you have to connect your player to your computer and open up the Manager software which will recognize your player. Then through this software, you must format the player and the ERROR will go away. |

Q: What formatting settings should I use for my iFP model?
A: If you have the Manager firmware on your player (you have this if you use the Manager software to transfer music to your player), then use the software to format the player because the software will have the right settings. If you have the UMS firmware on your player (look for UMS #.## when turning your player on), then connect your player to your computer, go to My Computer, right click on your player drive, click on FORMAT, check that you have FAT, and do quick formatting. All iFP (flash) models do not support FAT32 and NTFS so don't try to format your player with these settings. However, if you do, there isn't much to do. If your player has the option to format itself without a computer, do that and the player will come back to normal but if you have the older models that don't have the option, please contact iriver. |

Navigation using ID3 tag
Well at risk of being slagged off by a technofile, for not looking at FAQs, which I have !,
can some one point me in the right direction, On page 54 of the H320 user guide, it shows Artist Menu, well how do you get it, I have successfully downloaded, music files, upgraded firmware, made play lists, etc, etc, but cant crack this one, and I am not alone, a previous post by another user, got a scathing check FAQs answer !!!, from a helpfull sole, So please can someone point me in the right direction, ??? |

If you are using the Iriver Music Manager (IMM) software to upload files to your iFP unit, you can easily sort files and folders in ascending or descending alphabetical order by connecting your player, switching the right pane in IMM to detail view, and then clicking on the column title as many times as necessary to sort the files and folders in the order that you wish.
Note that this change is written to the player immediately and there is no undo command! So use caution if you've manually sorted your files in a particular order. (Tested with IMM version 3.17) |

hmmm interesting point i am debating about getting an h340 or 320 and this is a concern for me... basically what im asking is can you browse the files via a id3 tagging system/database like and iPod....waiting for someone to want to hurt me for mentioning it...hehe but nah or is it just a file tree system....please explain...any help is appreciated. i may be able to join you guys in the iriver ranks soon... either that or an iaudio/jnc m3, please give valid opinions on either... i appreciate anything you guys can tell me....thanks |

Yes, the H300 does allow browsing via ID3 tag, but it requires a little preparation first.
You'll need to generate a DB file first, either using the supplied iRiver software on your install CD or one of the many alternatives (TDT, iRivium Explorer, iFish). Then, under the H300's general settings menu, go down to DB scan and select Yes. If everything works, you should have DB browsing up and running. My apologies for the brusque response this question often receives, but it is asked fairly often and is thus the subject of a FAQ. |

Recording From The Radio?
1. Why can't I record off the radio on my 340? WHen I do what it says in the (crap IMO) manual, it just goes back to the options (music, radio, record etc). I tried changing the record settings from line-in/line-out etc to tuner, but tuner wasn't even an option. Why does it say you can record from the radio if you can't? Has this function been removed for copyright reasons?
thanks |

[Q] My iFP-7xx crashes/resets while playing some VBR mp3-s? Answer\Solution This is a known problem with some LAME VBR MP3s and iRiver players. Turn on the equalizer by selecting any mode other than Normal. If flat output is desired, Xtreme EQ should be selected with all frequency bands set to zero. More information about the root cause, encoders invloved and rippers effected will be posted. sdz

All you need to know guides for the forum
http://www.misticriver.net/boards/sh...ad.php?t=21225
Right just been looking over the boards today and noticed that there are no stickies like the one above for the H300, H100 or H10. So Im looking to members to either pool together or to write one on your own. So if anyone is up to the challenge of writing one please say so. I have not enough knowledge of these players to write such a thing, even though I did enjoy writing the PMP one. It just needs to address the most common questions that people ask coming to MR. No more than 4 or 5 lines of a reply (like the one above) and a link to a follow up thread where more info can be had. If you want to write a few to add to it do so to this thread stating the player FAQ they belong in at the top of the post. That thread seems to have been of use in the PMP section so it is worth a go in the PMP section. So Little MR cheeseburger sink your teeth into that. And he isnt the only one. San, NPswimdude and co should all be well up to the task. A |
