I don't like the way it looks (color scheme or the control pad), but the color screen looks to be on par or possibly better than the H300 series. Looks about the same size as the H120/140 (though I didn't check the exact specs), so it might be possible to upgrade to a 60gb HDD. |

Stuff the player, I just want the drive!

It makes sense that Toshiba would be first to launch a player with their own 60 GB drive. It's bound to cost a bomb whenever it comes out, giving Toshiba a cost advantage.
I just found a shop selling the 4004 which you get in the Hx40. It cost $419 (SGD), a fair proportion of the $765 the H340 cost me. |

Aside from the joking with regards to getting a 60gb drive for my iHP-140 I am actually serious about getting one, even if the 9999 file limit hasn't been removed by the time the drive's available (it'll enable me to re-encode favourite tracks at a higher bitrate for more quality)
But what to do with the leftover 40gb 1.8" drive? either buy an external enclosure for it so it can be used as an external USB connected & powered drive - or flog it on eBay to recoup some money back for the cost of the 60gb drive.

I'd put it on eBay if i were you.
From what I've read here, I understand the H120 is slightly thinner than the H140 due to the 20gb HDD being somethign like 2mm thinner than the 40gb drive (I could be wrong, so feel free to correct me on this.) I did read the thread where someone else had upgraded to a larger (30gb, I believe?) HDD, but it "barely" fit, and was very snug due to the slightly larger HDD size. I think I'll check out the actual specs if/when I can find them to compare the HDDs (I haven't looked too hard as of yet.) |

HotStuff2, you're right, the Toshiba drives come in two thicknesses, 5mm and 8mm. The 5mm come in 20GB and 30GB. The 8mm come in 40GB and 60GB. I don't think those 30/60 are obtainable on the market yet.
I reckon if I upgraded that I would give my old 40GB drive away, in an enclosure. That would make a nice present to a member of my family. |

If anyone's interested, found some info about the new Toshiba 1.8" drives:
Toshiba Europe link Toshiba USA Press Release 60GB drive page (Toshiba USA) 60GB drive spec (Toshiba USA) Looks like the 60GB drive has got a 2MB buffer, rather than the 512KB on the 40GB. I'm guessing, but should that mean fewer spin-up/reads and (as both have the same average power consumption) therefore longer battery life ?? Several places now stock new 40GB drives (4004GAH) for around £100... we'll just have to wait to see how long it is before the 60GB drive hits the shops. Probably depend on just how successful Toshiba expect the Gigabeat player to be... |

Ahh, but if you sell the 40 gig drive, and something goes wrong with the player, you're really screwed

But if you've swapped the harddrive over your warranty is void through taking the thing apart.
