I read more or less the same thing, but now there are four people confirmed that have been killed. This does not appear to be a terrorist activity because this was a privately owned jet owned by a member of the NY Yankees organization.

this sucks... when i first heard i got a lil worried till i heard more
bein in NY makes it scarier when you hear of a plane going down. thank god its not terrorism if not only for the fact that terrorism is horrible (obviously) but bush cannot begin to justify another war thats in his own interest.

A very tragic accident.
As far as I am aware, there is a lot of samll aircraft around NY -can you confirm MH/DRB? - Was it always going to happen ? |

Small planes are sure flying around here, but what happened yesterday was thankfully a very rare incident.

Here's a theoretical question to stoke the brains fires a bit. What if the guy flying the plane was fulfilling a suicide bid, as has been speculated on, which cannot be confimred or denied at the present time. If this were the case (that it was an over-elaborate yet successful suicide attemt), would this not be deemd a so-called act of "terrorism"? It would seem some people experienced some sort of "terror" during or after the incident. Or is it a case of "foreign"-looking people and their acts having an unwanted monopoly on the overly mis-used terminology?
Accidents of this nature are just waiting to happen as we continue to overcrowd the skies, especially over the major cities, like London, Tokyo, LA etc. There are so many close-encounters that happen on a daily basis already.

He could have actually commited suicide. I guess we will know what really happened after the black box is ananlized. |

Unfortunately, small private planes like this do not have black boxes.
The little bit I've heard here in the midwest has not mentioned the possibility of suicide. But there have been brought up several times that the pilot has only been flying about 8 months, and this model plane is a bit harder to control than others.

I've heard a number of reporters (one on WFAN) say that Lidle was an avid pilot who was scheduled to be flying with his instructor yesterday in a plane he had just recently purchased. He was doing some practicing before leaving today to start a series of short trips as he made his way to his home in California. He put his wife and young son (6 y.o., I think) on a commercial flight yesterday for California before taking off himself - apparently he crashed while they were still in the air, and the airline arranged for a clergyman to meet them when they landed to break the news.
Doesn't sound at all like suicide to me - just a very sad story for everone involved. I feel awful for that kid. |

I was watching the live coverage on four or five networks and let me say that CBS definitely took the lead on this story. I was impressed with their level of coverage - better than NBC, and much better than Fox.

In case anyone's interested, here's a good representation of the flight path. To a complete layman like myself, it looks like they just miscalulated where they were when they made the turnaround:

I heard, through the BBC, that it was 4 dead - the Yankee guy, his instructor and two people who lived in the building.
I think the fact that he was in the plane with someone else immediately discounts any sort of suicide theory. Even if the guy had wanted to top himself, I doubt he would've done it in such a way that would definitely kill one other person and risk killing many more. It was, as others have said, just an accident. Looking at the link showing the flightpath, I must say I'm surprised planes are allowed over the East River. Especially at such a low height. That just strikes me as dangerous. |

Really?!?! How else could they have crashed?? They couldn't be on the ground, could they?
p.s. I'm not a conspiracy nut, just posing a hypothetical question, as stated.
