Your heavenly descriptions of the V10 dont match what iriver gave out during CeBIT. The storage is only a measly 4-8GB and you mentioned the larger capacities a lot. Do you think iriver will be using the new 16/32GB of NAND flash? I would pay a hundred dollars more if the storage was in 32GB of NAND flash rather than an HDD equivalent. At CeBIT, the V10 used a 3" TFT-LCD in 480 x 272 resolutions. GPS was also announced as an optional (ie: not free) feature at CeBIT. I do not see the V10 playing games. The way I see it, the G10 is the better model because it offers games and web browsing (and GPS too?). The G10 and V10 seem to fighting each other in the same low capacity DAP market which makes absolutely no sense. Just bump the V10 to 32GB of NAND flash please and than it makes sense. I want the V10 to support internet web browsing and wireless media transfers to the device (meh, I'm not hung up on this one though), but there is no such thing as a perfect DAP, ever.

edit: Hasn't iriver stopped using the "R"? If so, than why is an employee still spelling it "thy olden" way Hopefully you print my post and take it to the President of iriver... I might have missed this, but how many colors will the V10 and G10 display?

Yes...the one I posted was from the developers forum, so most of them are just suggestions...but some DID came out as a fact...according to the stats, the V10 is about 94.4% complete (2006,3, 15)...
Oh, and yes, iriver stopped using "iRiver"...but I like this style...^^
The V10 probably WILL NOT PLAY GAMES. This is discussed a lot but the G10 will do the job. And there is NO 32GB NAND FLASH! This si COMPLETE NONSENSE.
The 32GB was a HD, not a nand flash. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO creates a 32GB nand flash...it doesn't exist. (it actually does, but it costs 189 dollars per GB!!!)
Lastly, the V10,G20,G10,W10 ALL DISPLAY 260000 colours but it is still not confirmed...I prefer 260000 but other reviewers in the developer forum are still aiming for the 16 million colour one...pointless to me..

I'm so excited. For you guys that don't know, the pic of the V10 shows a person playing Maple Story. It's a crazy addictive, free MMORPG. the fact it'll be completely portable blows my mind. w00t! \o/

Im still going to get the V10 at 8GB but was just wondering about those other capacities. I had no idea it costs that much per gig to make. But V10 is American/European market only and G10 is South Korean market only, right?

edit: I don't know where you got your facts, but it actually costs (Samsung) $30/GB today. Last year it cost them $55/GB. 32GB of NAND flash memory will fit into the size of a 1.8" HDD.

Not confirmed yet. Chances are very high that extremely addictive asian games will be ported to the G10/G20 in English...and that would mean a start in the US/Eurpean maket. But yes, the V10 will be definitely coming out outside Korea and we will see them soon in Summer 2006 and September for the rest of the world.

UPDATE:

The V10 is a 4gb to 8gb Flash Memory type player, with the same basic design elements as the U10.

It has a 3-inch TFT display (480x272 pixels) and uses the TI DM320 chipset, which is the same processor found in the Cowon A2 and the Creative Zen Vision:M.

The V10 also comes with a DMB-T receiver, along with an antenna that pokes out of the left hand side of the player (could be pretty inconvenient)

Curiously, the V10 runs on Windows CE - which is probably why it needs 64mb of memory.

Other features include FM Radio, GPS (optional), an alarm clock, and a voice recorder.

It supports audio formats like MP3, WMA & OGG, and video formats like MPEG-4 (up to D1 resolutions), H.264, WMV9 & DivX.

All in all, the V10 looks like a really nice player, and if it's released in a timely manor and doesn't cost a fortune then it might be quite successful.

We'd like to see this one hit the market ASAP!

after all, the v10 looks like a pointless DAP...i'd choose the simpler u10, which is cool, more compact and cheaper.
the g10 must be really cool instead!
you talked about the battery:new type of fuel cell, right? what does it mean? no more Li-Ion, but Hydrogen batteries, which the whole world is waiting for??

It's a prototype and there is a lot of discussion going on about it...
I dont know what it is exactly but it should increase the battery life dramatically and uses some kind of liquid as its fuel...

Is it a version of the fuel cell batteries that Samsung or others are developing?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/11...ung_fuel_cell/
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/01...our_fuel_cell/

Quotes from those articles:

"Still, empty fuel cells will only require a new methanol tank, not a lengthy recharge, and Samsung expects those to become as commonplace as ordinary batteries are today, South Korea's Joong Ang Daily reports."

"Like other methanol fuel cells, the Samsung system uses a catalyst to react methanol and water at the positive electrode. This produces hydrogen and electrons, which combine at the negative electrode with oxygen to create water. The cell has to transfer some of the water back to the anode to continue the reaction and suck the hydrogen across to the cathode to enter into the water-producing reaction. The cell also produces CO2."

It is very likely to be that...
But they are just keeping it top secret..
I can't access the noticeboard about the fuel cells...

Anyone know why?

uhh the v10 looks more squared and flat than the G10. is this just light playing tricks or...? If it is just color why make a new design for it and new name? the H300 series was released with different features for different regions(ie the video playback) and it didn't have different names.

The V10 is the american version,

The G10 is for the asian market.

However, chances are that they will all be avaiable worldwide...and the V10 is more like a PMP than a game console.

We are an anti iPod / PSP site, by the way.

As I always say: "TRUE gadgets that need RESPECT and ATTENTION."

No PSPs or iPods. There are way too many fanboys/girls out there.

We support products that are less known but still very valuable.

i was going to get a GP2x, but seeing as G10 will have massive homebrew, i'm probably getting that instead.

youngjoon, do you think the G10 will be strong enough to handle CPS2 emulation?

btw, i just came from Korea, and i didn't see a GP2x anywhere.

nVidia are listing the G10 as using their new Goforce GPU, capable of OpenGL ES for games.
For video is has hardware h264 decoding (up to PAL or NTSC DVD resolution, better than iPod and PSP) AND encoding (at QVGA resolution), WMV9 decoding, real video 9 decoding.
For audio, theres hardware AAC/AAC-LC/HE-AAC/AAC+ decoding, MP3, WAV, PCM decoding, and real audio.
It can also encode MP3 and AAC at up to 320kbps.

It has support for up to 8mb of stacked memory (ie, memory built right onto the chip die), support for video output of up to 1024x768, JPEG support, as well as support for a 10mp digital camera.

http://www.nvidia.com/page/pg_20060207466624.html

If iRiver are going to allow homebrew on these things, with a Goforce5500 onboard it certainly makes for an attractive little device.
