iRiver G10 and iRiver V10

Quote:
We had heard about the upcoming Sony PSP’s rival - iRiver G10 just before the CES 2006. However, the picture leaked several days ago was not the iRiver G10. It is iRiver V10, the upgrade version of iRiver G10.

Basically, iRiver G10 is a portable multimedia player that supports audio/video playback, image browsing, and voice recording. Futhermore, with WiBro capability, iRiver G10 may also browse web, read email and play streaming medias. Another exciting feature is that iRiver G10 comes with independent GPU, which makes it comparable to Sony PSP! iRiver V10 is actually the upgrade version of of iRiver G10. It may feature 8 - 16GB of NAND flash memory or a 30GB of 1″ / 1.8″ HDD. The company hopes to improve its resolution of 640 x 480 @ 30fps.

Both models are still under development and expected to be first released in Korea within next few months. The company is also seeking the possibility to make its G10 to be run on US WiMax network. Otherwise, both of them will be marked as upgrade version if iRiverU10 by just taking out slider keypad!

I like the idea, but just the fact it's all gameboy'y and all looks a bit cheesy and, well, childish and cheap! I would like the v10 if it dropped all the gaming crap and got rid of all those gaming controls.

Iriver is an audiophile company, not nintendo! For a start, what games are going to be available- none like those on the PSP!

I have my eyes on this rumoured 30gb u10 !

let's pray that this player does not make it out of Korea, or iRiver's R&D department for that matter....

I think this should be added to the news.

I wonder how the controls would be if they decided to remove the slide pannel. I think the panel can give a lot of functionality for adding text input for renaming files, or searching by name. Having an MP3 player with a screen of that size would also be amazing. Think how HUGE the album art displayed could be! I think 30GB should be the minimum requierment for such a device; as it'd most likely be capable of playing videos as well. Look at the PSP for example. That device isn't ideal for playing videos because it lacks memory space, BIG time. The 5G iPoo on the other hand is an ok MP3 player (I'm not an iPoo hugger), which happens to play videos as well, with AV out, and has loads of space all in the same time. I'm not going to change my H340 for something with a smaller drive, when I'm actually thinking of getting a new 80 GB HD replacement!

Give us 60GB plus!
