Here is the link for the details:

I am a little shocked that since iRiver and Microsoft got cozzy nothing has surfaced from the team to counter Apple.

Guess they have all the engineering and marketing talent tied up writing lyric DB software

I'm curious...

Apple uses iTunes to sell iPods to the 'push a button and the computer does the rest brigade', by locking them in to the iTunes way of downloading. They make very little, if anything out of selling the tracks. The Labels get the bulk of it, with a pittance for the artist, assuming that they aren't already in debt to the labels... which a hell of a lot of them are!

Iriver isn't aiming for the 'sit back and let the computer do it' section of the market, it's aimed more at enthusiasts, rather than 'trendies'. In what way could getting cozy with Micro$oft help iRiver sales, apart from the licence to use Micro$oft-controlled software?

They can hardly tie the user in to DRM-crippled MP3's... I Fervently Hope!

Let's hope it has something to do with the blessed firmware.

But I hope they don't turn my iHP into a sweet little black box that's running a glorified version of Windows Media Player.
I hate WMP.
