iPod Mini
Maybe a wee bit off topic, but interesting none the less.
A 4GB HDD player. iPod Mini Now we can look forward to more drooling over this from the review press. Cheers

Well, it's nice, but really nothing special.
Plus, you have to look at it this way, for only $50 more, people could go for the 15Gb normal iPod. I don't think it's wise of Apple to be advertising both side-by-side on the main page, along with that pricing, it's nothing to shout about :P What happened to the "$100-$150" price-tag the rumours were raving about eh? - Odie

Pricey, inadequate battery life, non-removable battery, no USB/firewire recharge capability, no universal mounting to PCs, no FM tuner but has 4 Gb of memory, games, and calendar....yeah it's worth $249..might sell a couple to Apple zealots. But the color change is nice...
Philosophical question, why do companies think that their customers are stupid and have money to burn? You know this attitude can all be traced back to Eli Calloway when he found out he could sell a mediocre driver for $400......

For some looks will always take precedence over anything else. You just know that the press will go gaga over it. I would also imagine that the price will drop after a few months. A gadget mag I read has resorted to making up top tens every month just so they can plug the iPod. Recent ones have included, Top Ten: White gadgets Smallest gadgets Must have gadgets Christmas present gadgets Audio players Gadgets with silver bits (only joking about the last one Theres not a month goes by that the iPod is not included somewhere in the mag at #1 on some kind of list. Cheers

With that said, there's nothing wrong with ipods. They're just incredibly popular at the moment (overrated in my opinion) and some of the behavior relating to them is borderline cultish. |

I read yesterday tha Hewlet Packard is going to private lable ipod mini's and start to retail them under the HP name. This will drag even more people that should know better into the dap market.
I just wish people were smart enough to do a little research prior to purchasing. They would see quickly that the ipod is a POS interms of battery life and thus user satisfaction compared to iRiver's even entry level ifp-1xx product offering. I now can clearly see why Microsoft wanted the iRiver tieup. It is too bad that groups like Cnet sing the praise of ipods since there are tens of thousands of people who blindly follow such foolish product reviews and recomendations. jmho. sdz

CNET Reviews
I was one of those minions who read and trusted CNET reviews but have since found out that at best they are biased and at worst, deceptive.
There are too many other unbiased reviewers out there. This one was interesting, found it over on the IF. Love the comment about not having Winamp on the load CD...doesn't say much about the play quality though. http://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/iriver_e.html

bullet is right. I've run into many people with iPod thinking they are 1337 and yet they ask me if it's possible to put mp3's that werent already on their computers on the iPod (e.g. they only transferred stuff they got from kazaa and websites).
PS. It's funny seeing regular kazaa users thinking they are "hackers" because they use kazaa. |
