The LAST STRAW

Surfing cnet.com, and found this, the top 100 gadgets.
http://www.cnet.com/Top_10_digital_m...7.html?tag=nav
Apple, again, took three awards, for the ipod, mini, and itunes
On the other hand, iriver did make a comeback with the iFP-790 and the iMP-550, but still, the iHP-1xx gets nothing ? I'm tired of cnet's criticism toward the iHP-1xx, also, cnet hasn't even said a word about the H3xx yet. Why is this ?

This has been said before, and I'll say it again, I think cnet is biased towards ipods, and apple. If they wern't, then how come the iHP-120 they reviewed had version 1.16, and they havn't given it a second thought since ?
cnet continually tells it's viewers to tell them if product reviews seem out of date to contact them. I have sent them several e-mails, with no response.

I'm guessing they don't have the 300 series because it hasn't been released to the US yet. I wouldn't necessarily swear by their 100 list by any means either....... I agree, it's very biased.....

It truely is sad that the H100 series can get overlooked so easily. It's such a great player. And not just on this occassion, but several others it seems to have been forgotten. The best, however, was on the IGN roundup a short while back. The H120 made #1!!

It's called "advertising" and contribution dollars my friend. Welcome to economics 101 ! Hand washing is everywhere, even in the bowels of schlock house journalism.

Is it true that the H3xx series hasnt been released in the U.S. yet? It's not often that we in Australia get preference in electonic gadgets over the U.S., well except on phones because we follow the European standard....

I was also pleased to hear that the H3xx series hasn't yet been released in the U.S.
Mind you, it would be nice if more companies would follow suit and bring more things Down Under first.

I was recently pleased to find that my new digital video camera (sharp zl950e) which was purchased in singapore 2 months ago, has only just come on the Australian market, but hasn't arrived on North American shores yet as far as I am aware.

back on topic... I agree with Sweet Spot. Very few sources of "top xx" are unbiased. These are recommendations put forward by CNet, but think of the "recommended" lists at most music stores - the albums that get there have massive marketing contracts provided by the record companies, hence the posters, freebies etc.

Lets face the facts, if you are an iPod loyalist (most of my friends with portable music devices are), then you're more than likely going to criticise any competing product that arrives on the market.

A mate of mine swears black and blue that his G3 iPod is better than my brand new H320 - despite the slight price difference (G4 iPod = AU$499, H320 = AU$599), battery life and the swag of accessories that come with the H320. We haven't even begun to compare audio quality - most of my mp3s are all encoded at 128Kbps, and I couldn't be bothered re-ripping all of my CDs.

peace
Woody

For the record, PC Magazine did rate the IHP-120 as the editor's choice for mp3 players, beating both the iPod and the Karma.

Sweet Spot - When you said schlock I nearly plotzed!

The ipod hype is definitely spiraling out of control.
I predict that it will eventually plummet, genesis space probe-style, into the hard desert soil.
And, incidentally, how exactly is there still hype for ipods?

You'd have to be living on the friggin moon to not have exposure to them by now.
Seriously, even my mom knows what an ipod is, and the VCR at my parents' house has been flashing the same "12:00" since I was eight!

If you are a fan of HBO's "Entourage," (http://www.hbo.com/entourage/) I hope you appreciated this scene as much as I did:

Turtle- "Hey Vince, I only got you 9 ipods because they ran out."

North America is Earth's technology ghetto. We get everything last. Asia gets it first, then they refine the technology in Europe, and it finally arrives here a year or so later.
