Cool iRiver Secrets Revealed

I've always thought iRiver was a well-kept secret but it seems they are really trying to expand and increase brand awareness in the UK.

Surprise 1 - Visited the Rose and Crown pub in Wandsworth, London for the first time in years to see some old friends. Almost spilled my pint when I looked out the window to see a 40ft tall iRiver 'Sweeter One' poster! I thought these were all just mock-ups on their international website after people commented that their posters weren't actually in Times Square etc. Well there's a bloody big one on the South Circular as you come into Wandsworth!

Surprise 2 - Discovered that iRiver have opened a UK office somewhere in the Thames Valley and another one in Paris - maybe sometime soon, should my precious ever need repairing, I might not have to send it to Germany! Old news apparently, but the press release is here

Surprise 3 - Tried out the Product Finder on the European website and noticed the option to select 60GB storage capacity! No such palyer exists yet, but why include it in the website unless they plan to have one? H360 or PMP-160 coming your way sometime soon?

iRiver "Sweeter One" - they might be right

haha yeah i thought all of those pictures on iriver.com were fake. guess not. that's awesome. when's iriver coming to rainy vancouver??

lol i don't get how all of you can use up that much storage. 20 gigs is just enough, if not more than enough, for me. well being 15 and having a small music collection might be the answer. it's time to go cd shopping. then again i could just load it up with movies. wheeeeeee

while i can't speak for other users, i just bought a 120 gig, external hard-drive for music and have already crammed it full of .ogg at -q4 after sitting at a computer ripping for weeks...and i still have yet to get to my vinly.

and i'm sure there are people with more music than i have. so it just takes a serious addiction, i think.

The Thames Valley unit, aka iRiver UK, has been around for at least a year or two...

When iRiver reorganised their UK distribution/supply (it used to be handled by a well-known mp3 player retailer i used for work for ... *hangs head in shame*), they took back the import/distribution side back in-house, and the Thames Valley site is where the official imports are distributed from to resellers/retailers etc.

CMS Peripherals handles (for UK retailers and iRiver UK) the repairs of units returned by resellers/retailers over here in the UK. They don't deal with the public direct mind, as far as i know.

I've got the contact no. for iRiver UK floating around somewhere...

There's a sweeter one advert just off the north circular too- by friern barnet's tesco... The only DAPs I have really noticed around are Ip*ds... but Irivers are more conspicuous so you are less likely to spot them. Fine by me. It's an mp3 player not a fashion item.

hate to bust your bubble but when you click the 60gb option and "all" for the rest of the criteria the H10 6gb pops up, so i think it might just have been a typo, sucks though always have hope

Hell yeah...I'm a happy Vancouverite/Vancouverate/Vancouverinian whatever. I'm studying over in England though :/...I don't like it as much there....Vancouver is my home and always will be.
iRiver in Vancouver. How awesome would that be. If not Vancouver then Calgary or Toronto would be a good place...

iRiver is growing bigger and bigger as time goes. Even if JB-HiFi has 2 walls dedicated to iPods and 1/4 wall to iRiver, on other Gadget shop pamphlets, its almost full of iRivers and hardly any Sony/iPod. Go iRiver!

JB-HiFi...Is that Aussie? iRivers aren't as popular over here in Canada as they are in Aussie. iRiver seems to have done something to impress aussies...or maybe aussies are just smarter and have more buying sense

yep... it's a chain of huge shops selling home theaters, dvds, cds, headphones, mp3 players, hifis, car audio etc etc.

plus they're really cool as they're really easy to negotiate/haggle with

And even if you don't haggle with them they generally have the best prices anyway!

I suppose iRiver is pretty popular in Australia but there's still HEAPS of iPods everywhere... but the next biggest is probably iRiver players. One of the main reasons could be that Australia has no iTunes Music Store or any decent online music store (I read a newspaper article about six months ago which said that only about half of the top ten singles were able to be brought online through Australian sites) so UMS devices are pretty much standard and the ability to sync with WMP or another music service is not required.
