Yeah, I heard this on the news this morning. It was kinda weird. I don't think he specifically hacked Paris's cellphone, from what I heard, (I mean, he would have to be pretty close, she would have to lose it, or I've seen some long range Bluetooth hacking, which wouldn't be suprising since I'm sure she has a really tricked out phone) but rather had broken into the phone company database and stolen a large amount of customer information.

here's why i don't feel bad for her....not one bit:

i don't have a cell phone, actually, but i know most people do, so lets look at it this way......

tomorrow you get out of work/school and turn on your phone, possibly to make a call. as you head home (using whatever mode of transport), suddenly you get a flurry of calls, from people you're positive you don't know, and you definitely don't want to talk to because you're tired and want to go home and see your family/go out and see your friends/whatever.

Sure enough, someone hacked into your cell phone, and right now, your phone numbers are all across the web, in the hands of complete strangers, who surely don't have good intentions.

So far, this is what happened to Paris Hilton. The difference ? because its paris hilton, they make a huge fuss out of everything, and immediately start working to correct it.

if your phone was hacked, you know, you, the average joe, middle class, not particularly famous, other than appearing on the local news after you returned a little girl to her parents in Kmart, the phone company wouldn't nearly make such a huge fuss over it.

But if the average joe turned into a rich skanky hoe, then it would be news. There are alot average joe, but only only a handful of rich skanky hoes.

Yeah but if someone posted our phone numbers on the internet no one would give a damn. Our phones wouldn't be ringing off the hook and we surely wouldn't be making news headlines if our numbers were posted. The reason why the phone companies are making such a "huge fuss" over this is because there are thousands of people calling these numbers constantly. Plus these people have lots of money. I bet T-Mobile gives free phones to these stars so they can advertise for them. I'm sure there are plenty of teenage girls out there that want the same phone as Paris Hilton.

T-Mobile is investigating the reported disclosure of Paris Hilton’s information.

T-Mobile’s computer forensics and security team is actively investigating to determine how Ms. Hilton’s information was obtained. This includes the possibility that someone had access to one of Ms. Hilton’s devices and/or knew her account password.

Given the sensitivity of the situation, and to protect our customers’ information, we are not able to provide specific details of the investigation at this point.
There's not even proof that it was hacked into as such.. it could easily have been "Ms. Hilton" giving her password to someone and it spreading from there

That still doesn't explain how they got all the numbers in her phone. I thought that type of stuff was actually on the phone itself not on a big database somewhere.

that too. if your account was hacked tomorrow, chances are they would say you gave out your password. personally, i think paris must've let it slip out. she isn't exactly the brightest chick around, and sheisn't the most sober, either....

If someone got into her T-mobile internet account, and Paris had sync'd all her pictures and phonebook into that account, they'd easily have access to everything.
On the website with all the "hacked" stuff on, there are saved T-mobile account pages with all the phone numbers and what not on.

Hacking into the phone using Longrange bluetooth tactics wouldn't work either. Because i believe the sidekick doesn't even have IR, let alone BT

Here's my plan:
Obtain phone number of one celebrity. Ring up celebrity with convincing phone mannor stating you are from T-mobile, and there's a problem with the account. Obtain password and leak details on the internet for all to see.

Or
Simply leak the info anyway, make up all those celebs phone numbers in the phone book, and get your name into the news once again.

well, apparently they said that someone got to the point where they ask a question you've given the answer to, and they give you your password. they said the question was 'what is your favorite pet's name?'

gee, i wonder if he got it right ?

the hacker found her address book via the tmobile site. He changed her password by answering one of those peronal questions when you forget it. You know, they sometimes ask you hometown or your mom's maiden name. In Paris Hilton's case, they asked for the name of her pet (which happens to be that tiny annoying dog that she always carries around).
