Angry WHY no txt???

I was wondering...WHY can't i read txt on iriver x20??? Isn't it stupid? A fine screen, and no txt support... Is there per chance something to fix this problem? I believe there're lots of upgrades...

Ah...just finished browsing thoughts about this player, so scratch the question. Just admit X20 sux hard. Terrible sound, few features, stupid controls. Gotta sell it or something...

It does exactly what it claims to do (well almost !) You should really read the product features before purchasing something....

I don't own an x20 and have never used one, so i'm sure someone who owns one will be able to answer better than me.

Seeing as the three models of the X20 (2gb, 4gb and 8gb) all use the same firmware, if one model supports txt files then the others will as well. I've been on a couple of websites to find out the specs of the player and both of them (iriver.com and amp3.co.uk) both have no mention of text file support for any of the models. Where did you hear about the 4gb and 8gb models having text support?

I read it on a tech shop site...those buttheads! They made me nervous. But it's still stupid that this player doesn't read text. Now tell me...which one of those irivers DO? Or even...which is the best? Cause i had iFP-700 and i consider it a marvel. But now i wanna video, text and pics on my player. Oh, and a place to stick this damn microSD i got for X20.

I don't think there's any iRiver players that support both text and SD cards. The clix supports text but not SD. I haven't heard anything about the new E100 supporting text. Now that I think of it, I don't think there are any players that can do it. Does anyone know if the new Creative Zens support text ?

So your complaint, then, is that the X20 doesn't have a feature that has nothing to do with playing media and which nobody ever said it had in the first place.

Who's the idiot, exactly?

Shut up, i've been misinformed about what the 4gb and 8gb X20 could do.
So you consider text not being media? You must be an american...
That's my answer for yer question there.

I'm not American. And people generally don't buy mp3 players to read text files. People generally buy - what do you call them again? Oh yeah. Books.

Being rude isn't big and it isn't clever, so please take it else where.

Believe it or not, there are lots of uses for having text functionality on mp3 players. I used to have a highly useful address book on mine where I'd created a text file for each person and in it was their postal address, email address and contact phone numbers. I'd also occasionally put other information such as date of birth in there as well. I found this much more convenient than have a paper based address book because I'd be less likely to lose it. It was harder to update, obviously because I couldn't just write on it with a pen or pencil, but was still highly useful.
I also used to have my bus time table on there as well which again, meant I didn't have to carry a paper version around.

Not everyone is the same, and everyone has different uses for their players. If you want to fill your player with Britney's latest chart flop, sure go ahead, but there's no need to be rude just because someone else has the sense to store more practical information on there

That's what i wanted to say...

Books? Yeah... What if the book you're currently reading has a big format? And by the way, books aren't the only thing to read. Say you wanna cheat on an exam or test...would you take out a book on digital circuits? Uh-huh... And what about a lil player that fits in yer pocket? That's an answer for yer question again.

And yes. Stop being rude.

Lest I be accused once again of rudeness by a couple of whining trolls, my main point is that NOBODY ever said that the X20 had text functionality, and if you didn't do your research before buying one, then that's no reason to call the manufacturers at iRiver 'idiots'.

If I want to store phone numbers, I have a phone for that purpose; and not being autistic, I can generally remember what time my bus is due. But like you said, different people use technology for different things. I use my mp3 player - bizarrely - to listen to MP3s.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must go and listen to Britney Spears, because that's what people who don't whine and bitch and moan about imaginary functionality on media players do with their time, apparently.

If you read carefully, wise guy, you'll see i didn't buy it.
Then if you read again, you'll see i was misdirected by a particular website.

if you are really desperate to read text files u can use a utility called jpegbook and have the text files converted into jpeg images and read it on the x20. thats what i do.

Probably... Though now i'm just reading stuff every time i can't carry a book with me. You know, a "Stainless Steel Rat" all-in-one can be quite uncomfortable, as well as Konstam's "History of Pirates".
