For a player to support rockbox it requires a person who has the player and is well versed in "C" programming to take up the challenge of porting rockbox to it.
see link below for the actual story about porting a new player. NewPort < Main < TWiki

If it were just a matter of "being well versed in C" then it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately you have to be able to reverse engineer a highly complicated piece of electronics, which to me sounds like more trouble than actually writing the firmware. I think it's highly unlikely that Rockbox will ever be available for the X20.

yes that's what EVERYONE said about the ipods/rockbox, and then miracles of miracles, along came ONE GUY who knew C well and got the job done, the same thing for the H10, the rest is history, never say never.....it just requires someone with the will to do it, so question is, is there a guy out there who knows C well and wants to do it ?, I think your guess is as good as mine. so it's both highly likely and highly unlikely.
