Video Convert Problems

Hi, I have tried to convert video files for playing on my x20. I have used Imtoo, iriverter, iriver movie converter and allock but keep getting error messages when i try to playsaying file not supported or recognisd. have also tried converting and then converting again thru iriver movie converter but get error message codec not recognised. Anybody any ideas? It works with most converted files but not others which play ok on media player both sound and video.
cheers

I gave up. iRiverter is crap (doesn't install, known issue) - the new version doesn't install, it runs, so nowhere to stick the profile. I have tried EVERYTHING to convert video for these things. There is a thread I already did explaining why it does it (I think). You can use anything to convert it to the required WMV codec, that is easy, but it is the template, I can't find anything to change that, and it looks like that is all the iRiver software changes. I gave up.

All that changes when you convert them in iRivers software is the Device Conformance Template, so I figure that is all that stops it. If I could find a way of changing that you could use TmpgEnc to do them, VERY FAST! Only thing I have seen that lets you alter it is Xvid, the option doesn't seem to be there in anything else. If it isn't that, then the iRiver software just adds something to the file to say "You Can Play Me" cos as far as I can see it pretty much does sod all else.

Thanks

Thanks for taking the time Kasabian. Until I or anyone can find the answer I may just resign myself to the fact that I cannot play some files.

Try installing FFDshow, that might sort that missing Codec issue, because that shouldn't be happening. The iRiver software is really good to be honest, and always works. The problem is you can't drop .VOB files into it. So if you want to rip a DVD to the X20, you have to go via something like AutoGK, make an XVID or DIVX and then convert that, which adds a pointless 2 hours to the whole process.

I think they have shot themselves in the foot with this. It could be a superb video player, the screen is awsome and it seems to have a decent processor in it, the sound never goes out of sync even when FF or RW. All they had to do was put .Vob to WMA support in the software.

And now Creative have the new Zen out which plays DivX and Xvid drag n drop, that is the way to do that.

I will use this as MP3 only (which it does really well, so I shouldn't complain really) and grab a Creative ZEN for video, plus the SDHC card I bought, that doesn't work in the X20, works in the Creative, BONUS.

Gone off topic here, ahh well.
