Vista compatibility

Just got a new 8gb x20.

Try to sync it up to my new Vista Desktop. 2Gb Mem, 600Gb Disk, Dual Core Pentium machine with 6 x usb ports.

Vista cannot see the player. It does not create a drive letter, though the USB driver attempts to load. After about 10 min, a window pops up asking me to FORMAT the drive.

This is weird. Simply cannot get the player to get recognised properly on Vista.

Anyone else had success ? Failure ? With vista?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

I'm running Vista Ultimate and have had no problems. I have my player set to MTP transfer so it comes up as a dvice in MediaPlayer and I sync that way. I did try using Iriver Plus 3 with the X20 set for MSC transfer but find that Plus 3 is resource hungry, slow and not as easy to use as MediaPlayer. I don't think that Vista actually sees it as a Mass Storage device in the true sense. MSC transfer mode doesn't seem to be a true UMS mode but it works perfectly with Plus 3 so I think this may may be the source of your problems. Good luck, Eric

mtp mode

Freak... Thanks for the suggestion.

Indeed you are right... I tried connecting in mtp mode and success. I can sync the device using Winamp or MS Windows Media Player.

Clearly the MSC mode does not work... Vista does not perceive the x20 to be an external hard drive... so I cannot get explorer to look at the device.

Thanks for your help though... It's much appreciated...

Vista definately has problems with MSC mode... anyone else able to use explorere on the x20 from Windows Vista?

Cheers

X20 - Vista Cannot see it!

I have same problem as chasey. Running Vista Home Premium, with new X20 8GB, and iRiver plus3 installed, and the system just does not see the X20 at all, in both MSC and MTP modes. Most frustrating. I plug it in and the system goes looking for device drivers and fails every time, even though it is installed in default location.

Any tips or trubleshooting pointers?

979: The reason it would be asking you to scan it would be because it can't find any System Volume Information on the drive (which is, coincidently, saved into a folder by that very name), so it thinks the drive may have an error and wants to check. Usually after the check, if you permit it to do the check, it will create a folder to store the system info in and that should be the last time it brings that box up to scan it.

Solution - worked for me!

I had this problem too with Vista. Didn't connect in either mode.

Advanced MP3 Players who sell the X20 here in the UK provided a solution which works for me.

Try connecting the USB to one of the rear ports on your computer, rather than a hub or the front ports on the case. It worked for me in MSC mode after I'd had identical problems to those described in this thread.

Apparently the rear USB ports provide more power to the device.

HTH!

Pete

iriver plus 3 not activating

Hi there,

Well, I have foudn that vista recognises my x20 but at times (always random) the iriver software will not open. A window comes up saying windows is detecting problems and then it thinks for a while and won't open. I then have to downloading iriver plus 3 again and most of the time lose all my playlists.

Has anyone had this problem?

I am opting now to use media player instead

Corrine
