8GB Newbie

I got the 8GB X20 primarily to listen to podcasts. Syncing such a large amount was tough, transferring 700MB on a peak day with my 2 x 256MB flash drive and SD was a problem.
My Aiptek uses 4xAA batteries, which were aging, and it can't rewind/fast forward within a track. A problem if you're halfway through an unrewarding 1hr episode and hear something worthwhile 45min in, but didn't catch it all, and want to skip back a bit.
First day out, 1.5GB worth on the X20, and that's collected only after my first 2weeks of listening. I've listened through about 800MB so far.
Real shame it doesn't have line-in mic pre-amp, but I found a 12V gain control pre-amp pretty cheap, but will try to get a cheaper unit dedicated to voice recording, that I can put in other people's hands and not be cringing that it is my lovely X20

I bought the silicon black/white cover twinpack, very nice (black fitted) and have kept the original thin plastic over the screen for the time being, as the ones inthe pack seemed small initially (without cover on). I can see now they are sized with the cover on, so will fit one soon.

Fortunately I haven't had any problems that I've read others had earlier.

Regarding purchase, I bought it from Good Guys (preferred) after price matching a JB HiFi (not preferred) price someone posted of $255 best price. I had to buy the silicon covers from JB though, Good Guys nor Dick Smith stocked them.

Oh yeah minidisc.com.au also agreed to match the $255 price including $12 overnight air freight cost, and they also stock the silicon covers ($20). So if you're remotely located ask minidisc.com.au to match the JB price.
