Unhappy Build library ???

Hi,

Recently (past few weeks) with my x20 every time i turn it on it says "build library" i remember b4 it didnt. This is kinda a problem because it takes some time to turn on. Is this the case with your X20's and can it be fixed ????

Thanks in advanced,

Justin

building library is a process that creates all menu indexes such as albums, genres, artists, etc. It takes time analogous to what there is in your device. I didn't have any other mp3 player than x20 but this seems logical to me.

My X20 takes about 15-20 seconds to get through the 'Building Library' stage, I have a considerable amount of stuff on it, which is about half the length of time it takes to untangle the earphones!!!! So I don't really notice the 'boot' time as I am preoccupied with this task.

it shouldnt be building the library every time u turn it on... with my x20 it only does this when disconnectig from the computer, which seems fair enough

Mine does this too, but only if I have an SD card inserted.

Robman your right. Took my microSD card out and no building list is shown... Another bug in the firmware?

Appears an inserted SD card may be the culprit all right.
How do we get iRiver to sort these issues out as I have pretty much the 8 out of 10gb spread across the flash and SD card and find the build a real pain? I have tried to use the iRiver support site but cant seem to find any way of actually reporting an issue??? Am I missing something or are they that confident ;o)> ???

It seems to depend on the number of files on the SD card.

I had an audiobook made up of 118 files in 9 directories which I have now finished and removed. Now there's only a couple of movies on there it seems to build much faster. I wonder if it makes any difference what file system the card uses?

Is perfectlu normal to rebuild the library if you are using the microSD card, because is an external memory and every time the player starts up recognize that has a new bank of memory and reads it, hence building a new library. Perhaps this can be avoided with a new firmware that allows a flagging when you write from the computer in the SD card, and clean the flag after the first reading...Maybe it cannot be done as the X-20 cannot write in any of it's memory banks (you can't delete single files, only completly erase the memory bank, which is made, i think, through clearing the file tree perhaps.). I wish i'm wrong, if i am it can be fixed in a future firmware)

Any news to this issue? I experience the same problem (as said, only with miniSD card inserted), and it is really annoying.

I also find the regular library rebuild after disconnecting from the PC rather annoying, as it is fairly time consuming. It would be better if the updates to the library database are made as the files are updated/changed when connected to the computer. What irritates me the most with this however, is that the X20 loses the current playlist whenever connected to a computer (even when no changes are made, for instance when recharging).

Any firmware updates in the pipeline, prehaps? It has been a while since the last one.

I have had several mp3 players of one type or another, if they support drag and drop, they always rebuild the library after you disconnect the usb lead .
