Did you think x20 got bad sound quality from hardware or software?

2 Days ago i got brand new T10 From department store (it's sale).

and i compare with my x20

Sound very different From t10 to x20

t10 is too good for me (in the past i got clix v1 sound look good but t10 is better) now i think about x20 for sound quality

Because old model from iriver use encoder chip is Samsung and Philips

but for x20 and clix 2 from telechip

now i have lexar that use encoder chip as the same company in iriver product and sound like flat is good but if u want more bass by adjust EQ you will get bad sound (but lexar sound still fair compare with x20)

so..i'm nervous about sound quality from my x20

it can be resolve by new firmware or maybe hardware problem if hardware i think iriver company is fail to release this product

how about your think? plz tell me

Probably firmware because in another product I have had (MotorolaROKR), firmware made A LOT of difference. Eg: One series was noted for outstanding sound and battery life while the other noted for other features.

That doesn't necessarily follow.
Firmware will only be the deciding factor if the hardware is up to scratch.

There ain't no firmware in the world that can 'fix' cheap components.

X20 doesn't have "cheap" components. It has the same decoder chip as the Cowon D2 and Clix 2 (read more in the "Rockbox on X20" thread, you'll see what I mean) so in this case, firmware drags down the hardware.

You can't say that with any certainty unless once, say, RockBox is ported and the sound quality vastly improves.

And, for the record, my point was a general one in response to what reverendbert had said which implied it must automatically be the firmware because in previous cases of completely unrelated items, it's been the firmware.

Well, of the two, there's the Clix2 which is their new flagship product and there's the X20 which is, comparatively, a 'budget' model.
And now it turns out the hardware is different.

It doesn't take a genius to realise what the reason behind that difference is...

I wish we got the Clix2. Anyway, I wouldn't say the sound is THAT bad. There are a lot more players on the market with worse sound and NO equaliser to help fix it.

I can't complain about the sound quality. It's decently loud, decently clear and yes, we have a EQ to help fix the sound problem, at least attept to fix it .

Sorry about the different chips problem. It means the other thread was wrong. However, I wish RockBox was ported to the X20. I've heard it's a real boomer!

How bad is the sound on the x20? Is it the sound from the speakers or the earphones? Does the lack of srs wow make a big difference?

SRS WOW and good sound quality don't necessarily go hand-in-hand.

I agree. SRS WOW could make sound worse if used or implemented incorrectly onto a device

I never use the SRS WOW on any of my iriver players. In my opinion, it gives out poor audio quality.

Hey guys,
I took the advice from another post and emailed iriver. This was their response:

RE : Bass crackling and distortion

Dear sir

This is Andrew Hong, working at the Department
of Marketing Management.
Thanks for purchasing our products.

After receiving your message, we have checked
this issue.
And we decided to modify this matter with releasing
New Firmware.
It will be in the middle of June.

We feel sorry for giving you such inconvenience.

Best regards
Andrew Hong

So heres to hoping this firmware will fix it

Daniel
