X20 Playlists

Hi all

I have an iriver X20 - it works quite well apart from the playlist generation and I was wondering if anyone has any solutions.
I followed the other threads here on PLA playlists but they don't offer a viable solution (WMP doesn't run on my OS).
I found an XP box and was able to create a M3U playlist using MediaMonkey in a directory called "Playlists", next to the "Music" directory. When I navigate to the playlists listing on the device, select the list and hit play the device picks up the songs in the list ok and starts playing.

I tried creating a few other playlists programmatically based on my Amarok M3U playlists on Linux (which all work fine) - these all appeared in the Playlist list but failed to play anything. As it's a VFAT device, I made sure that the line endings were all CRLF and that the directory separators were all \ instead of / - still no cigar.
I even created a playlist on Linux exactly the same as the one from MediaMonkey that works - a diff of the files shows no differences - and that didn't work either.

This leads me to believe that the X20 firmware is flaky at parsing/running playlists. To test this theory I jumped back on Windows and created a copy of the working playlist directly on the mounted device - this exact copy doesn't work! That one has really go me beat?

Does anyone know if the X20 has a "special" way of using playlists? I'm happy playing music "per album'' but playlists are a nicer way to listen to music.

Use WMP11 or iriver Plus 3.

They sync the whole playlist to the device, sometimes even if the songs are already there (copies)
