X20 deleting files

I have just bought an iRiver X 20 4gb player after much research and conversation with a knowledgeable salesman. I am not finding it easy to connect as yet, often getting "unkown device" messages etc but somehow a whole lot of music files from my "My Music" folder have downloaded onto the player - can I Delete them from the player itself or does this have to be done via a computer. I cant find any reference to deletion of files in the PDF manual or anywhere else.

You cannot delete them from the player only via iriverplus 3 or via my computer
