x20 profile

In relation to last post, where do i extract the x20 profile too? Do i extract to the iriverter folder and if so which one?

When it works will it show up in the device section of iriverter program. I have the latest iriverter program (17).

Cheers

The chugging menu was happening on mine anyway - it did that out of the box to be honest. Every now and again it gets really laggy like the processor is fully loaded and it all gets bogged down. Just upgraded to 1.4 and it all seems to be the same.

Volume might have increased a bit.

I upgraded to 1.4 because there were black lines running around in 1.2. Works fine now with no lag.

Is there any way to downgrade just in case?

this is crazy guys, I know that iriver is focused on the clix2 and the x20 is like an underdog(see availability in europe) but there has to be a further firmware upgrade which makes possible that the x20 supports 4 or 8 GB Micro SD cards, 8 GB is not that much and with all it's features the storage is easily too small, so a 4 or 8 GB Micro SD card would really be a Gift from heaven. I mean, 2 GB Micro SD is ok, but if I want to use my x20 longer than 1-2 years, I must have got the chance to upgrade the storage a bit more than just 2 GB.

it's just on iriver to work on this, I know that they would rather see the customer buying a new player each year.

Before they implement support for higher capacity SD cards, they should IMMEDIATELY fix the bug that will brick your player if you load and *.m3u file on it. Not sure if it is *any* .m3u file, but test this out by putting a ripped album with .m3u playlist on an SD card and try booting your player - chances are it will get stuck at "Building library". If this happens, get rid of the .m3u file and it should boot properly .... thank goodness i have an SD card to test all music on first, otherwise I would have had to send the X20 back about 50 time by now.

I don't think you'd brick your player if you loaded a .m3u file from the player itself. Mine froze several times when I tried to play a video file it didn't support, and taking out the battery to turn it off fixed it.

If you put a high resolution image such as a 7 megapixel photo on your x20 and then try to zoom in on it, it is extremely slow, up to 10 seconds before it does anything, so it may give the appearance of freezing.

no, the pics were in 320*240 resolution and the player froze completely so I have to remove the battery and re-start the player.

Got my X20 about a month ago, it came with v1.05 firmware (Settings->Advanced->System Info). Since I couldn't find anything about v1.05 on the net and the player had some minor quirks (database update and transfer button missing in iriver plus 3, also some artist and album duplication in database even after I re-tagged and replaced the files) I decide to reinstall the firmware using the firmware updater (MSC mode because the software wouldn't let me do it in MTP mode and instructed me to change to MSC mode) it said your firmware is 1.05 current firmware is 1.04. After the reinstall i disconnected and switched on my player it said 'firmware update' then 'update ok' then powered off. Powered it up again and it keept looping at 'initialising' , pulled the battery out to stop it. Since the player was just over 7 days old I decided to have it replaced by iriver here in Australia. The replacement took 3 weeks and the player they sent me had the same firmware (v.1.05) and same quirks as the previous one. So I decided to do reinstall again, you guessed it the same thing happened as the first one(initalising). So I decide to get a replacement from the place I bought it from (JB Hi-Fi, and after some complaining I managed to get a replacement. This time the firmware is v1.04 but the quirks still remain as the previous 2 players. I am to scared to do any upgrades as the last two failed. I think the quality control on these players shipped to Australia was non-existent. I am thinking of getting my money back as I have had three players so far.

Version 1.05 isn't supposed to exist. Mine came with 1.04 and haven't had many problems with it. The whole firmware upgrade thing for the x20 sounds kind of screwy...

indeed, certain .m3u files do brick the player. try it yourself - but only load them onto an SD card, not the player itself, as you could be looking at a dead player otherwise.

i'm absolutely astounded that iRiver haven't released a fix for this. it won't be long before i forget to check my music folders for .m3u files and brick the player again.

Check out iRiver Firmware Updates. It says that v1.07 is out. I haven't been game to try it and I'm not sure how to check any changes that it has.

Anyone want to give it a go?

OK.....OK....I'm a sucker for updates.
Have just installed and apart from needing to reinstall all of my music and stuff (which it is still doing) because it needed to format both internal and external storage space...all is going well at the moment. Fingers and toes are firmly crossed!!!

Can't say at the moment what the new stuff is but I did notice a change in the initialisation faze. It now tells you that it is looking at the microSD card instead of just a general statement of 'initialising'.

Will keep you posted on just what happens and if I have bricked it or not.

Okay, there is an explanation of the update on the iriver site : http://www.iriver.com/support/down_view.asp?idx=881

"When users of X20 download specific files to their device, it stops operating its function disconnecting PC. This New Firmware modify this problem."

Their quality of English doesn't exactly fill me with confidence ! However, by the sounds of things they've fixed the .m3u files bricking the device. I haven't tried it out yet, but if I have to copy all my files onto it again it may be a bit of a pain. Must remember to back them all up first.

I just updated the firmware and everything appears to be okay. Haven't noticed any changes yet though...

Can anyone tell me if the new firmware supports microsd high capacity cards (4gb +) as i'm looking to get a card but i don't want to get a 4 or 8gb one if it can't support it... thanks

Hi....back again.....can say that it looks like any of the other firmware, there are no noticeable additions and my problem of bad sound when the EQ is switched on is still present. Oh well maybe next time!! As for the support for the higher capacity cards I can’t help with this…sorry.

Don't know as to why mine crashed and needed to be reloaded with all of the files but now that is done all seems to be fine. Everything still works.

My advice is if yours is working and you are having no troubles.....then don't bother with the update.....as for me....yes I am an updater by habit....sometimes it is good, sometimes it all goes to hell in a hand basket and the only solution is to try/buy again. Does this stop me.....no.

Until next time there is new firmware.....bye.

Just updated my X20 now, from firmware 1.00 to 1.07 with Iriver Firmware Updater. Didn't need to change from MSC to MTP, and I don't understand why people say we should do.
All works fine.

Byez.

I have now spent an hour trying to use the Updater software and to get it recognise my X20... I sort of does, but immediately returns to the initial wizard page. I sent a message to the support, to see if there are any alternative downloads to using the Updater-software.
I've tried both modes, without any good result.

Don't know if I would benefit from 1.07, but still believe the latest would be good to have, right?

Any ideas?

I am now on my 3rd X20 after bricking it twice, and to say I want to try the new firmware is an understatement !

However 1.07 seems to have disappeared from the iriver website and from
iRiver Firmware Updates
(It was there yesterday)

Could anybody make it available somewhere and post the URL in this thread ?

Thanks
Pierre

If they've removed it then there must be a problem with it. It may not be a good idea to use it.
