Question MSC or MTP connection type?

Another question! I've Googled on the differences between MSC and MTP and, to be honest, am not much the wiser on which is better for my X20.

I'd already put music across to the player in MSC mode (which I think shows the device as a drive) and frankly am none too keen to trust Windows Media Player. I didn't choose MSC mode - I guess the player initially defaulted to it.

Which mode do you all use, which do you recommend and why? Does MSC mode preclude playlists?

Hmmm, yes, I am a newbie on these things. Sorry!

Pete

MSC makes the X20 acts like a removable disk (much like a flash memory stick)(Formerly known at iRiver as UMS). MTP acts like an X20. It's kind-of like a Removeable Disk but kind-of of isn't, because it appears as an 'Otehr device' in My Computer.

Yes, thanks! But which is "better"? Does MSC preclude firmaware updates or playlists?

If I switch to MTP presumably the device gets 'reformatted'?

So far as I know, MSC can sync with iriver plus 3 while MTP can't. MTP allows easier syncing with WMP11

I use it as a removeable Disk. Just make Folders for each band. Folders inside those for each CD. Then Drag n Drop or Copy/Paste. I don't sync with any player. It's a really neat and tidy way of keeping control of everything. Plus I can control what goes where and how, nothing inbetween to mess it up. And because it shows as a disk drive in My Computer you can defrag it.
