T60 File Order Issue
Hello peeps,
When I put files (drag n drop) onto my 2gb T60, they take on the order of "date created". One would think the order would be by file name, for example 01 Track, 02 Track, 03.... etc. Why is this? More importantly, how can I work around it? I can't listen to an album where the tracks have been rearranged, it doesn't sound right. Agree/disagree? Anyhow, thanks, in anticipation of any help. Ryan. |

That is very annoying, I agree.
What does it do with files created at the same time? Does it then sort them alphabetically? There is a number of free/trial software that will enable you to edit the date created. This could be one workaround, although it is far from ideal.

I noticed a friends iPod has a similar "confused" file ordering. Many thanks for your input. |

5 second Google search, results:
http://www.iriver.com/plus/down_frm.asp At the above link, scroll down a bit, then click the big red button that says "Download iRiverPlus3" If you would prefer from the Australian site, it's there too: iriver.com.au You'll have to look for it on the Australian site though, the full URL to the direct download link won't post properly for some reason. It truncates everything after ".au". If you still can't find it on the Australian site just download it from the first link. Please note: iRiver Plus3 will only work with iRiver players in UMS mode. It will NOT recognize players that are in MTP mode. T60 allows switching between MTP or UMS modes in the settings menu on the player. Be sure to switch it to UMS before using it with iIRver Plus3. Ok. Fine for Windows users. What do you suggest for the Mac crowd?

I have actually been looking for an appropriate editor (both Win & Mac) for the past week, with no luck. Ticklist; - editor must actually work! A few I have tested didn't do anything! - must be able to do batches of files. - be able to read sub-folders of a given directory. This isn't a must, but would be highly helpful. Anybody know of any good utilities out there??? |

You could try some MAC forums, ask for any date-changing or playlist-creating utilities for non-iPod UMS devices on a MAC. There don't seem to be all that many MAC users in these parts, mostly Windows or Linux. |

It's not the date, it's the order in the FAT (File Allocation Table). Changing the date will not change the order of the files, it's changing their order in the file allocation table itself than changes the order. It's pretty low level.
By the way, you can change the date on a Mac with the "touch" command in a shell prompt, but like I said, it won't change the order. |

OK, a FATsort or playlist-creating utilities for non-iPod UMS devices on a MAC.
The point though was that Ryconn probably won't get many suggestions here for non-iPod utilities for MAC, not likely from a mostly a Linux or Windows crowd. Be a long time before the few MAC users here might find the thread. |
