i have never used the iFP.. but i dislike the usage of the joystick, especially when i want to press the center button, be it to go to the menu, or to select any option

its just difficult, i often have to grab the player with both hands in orden to assure i'm pressing in the center f the joystick otherwise i miss all the time

I hate the T60 joystick, but at least it is the only thing I hate about the T60. I am always hitting the volume when I want to change tracks and always changing tracks when I want to adjust the volume. All that said, I think I dislike the scroll wheel on my X20 even more.

I never tried an iFP either, but the joystick needs some getting used to. For me to have the joystick work correctly, I have to rest my thumb on the player and only use the tip of my thumb to control the joystick, this way the movement is more precise.

What do you think can joystick make it for year and more?

Because on IFP700/800 it is the weakest point (and only weak point) of player..

Smile T50 Joystick

I have a T50. I hate that joystick. However, now that I have it setup, I don't use the joystick. I use the play button to start it and the play button again to stop it.

That's it. I use it to listen to music, not to fiddle with the settings, pick other songs, change the volume all the time.

I like everything else about the T50. I like the music quality, I like the battery life, I like the USB connection, I like MediaMonkey and I like the size of it.

I can tolerate the joystick the few times I use it.

it would be nice if there were a way to remap the keys functions via a firmware or something, i would definetly change the main functions to the buttons on top of the player since i rarely use them (the last two)

Hello, out there.

I am a proud user of an iFP 899, and the joystick doesn't make too much problems for me. I got this beast for more than 3 years now, and there has never been a malfunction with it.

Furthermore, I am able to use my player blind (one short skip takes me to the next track, one short followed by a long skip changes directories.); I also own the T10, but to change directories in this one I have to access its explorer menu, which is far less comfortable than the iFP. I surely do sometimes change the volume or the title when I planned to change the other one; in my opinion, the easy way of fast moving through my music compensates this by far, particular while being in a full train or subway.

Though my old one is not as sturdy looking as my new DAP and has less memory, I could not say which of them is better. iriver has done a great job with both of them

Lars

I think T60's joystick is worse than ifp series. It is very troubled. For example : you push it to left but your voice is louder~

howdys yall out there

LONG ANSWER:
i have an old iRiver iFP-795 and i can personally say, the joystick was alright to use once you got used to it. But one day, i injured my right arm and i couldn't use my right hand and fingers at all. This in the end made me use my left hand and finger and OH MY GOD!!!...it was horrible!!! i couldn't navigate the player properly at all. All i could do was play/pause, A-B repeat and change the mode of the player. I had to endure this for 4 weeks while my am was healing and although I did start to get used to left-hand navigating, the coordination was still off as pushing down into the player was always difficult and most of the time caused either a volume change or song change instead.

SHORT ANSWER: The T50/60 would be great replacement for the iFP-700 and 800 series, but the joystick is a major drawback which is a sensitive/delicate navigation tool.

The 300 series was the worst. I went through two units whose joysticks died before iRiver finally just sent me an 800-series. The 800's been great - No problems accidentally changing volume or skipping tracks, and the joystick has held up fine even after all these years.

Did all of the 300's have that problem?

Mine did. Really had to push the joystick down to get it to function.
