T60 - using rechargeable battery

Hi! I'm getting to buy a T60 (mostly because of iriver sound quality) and I have couple of questions:

1. Battery - it say it estimates 19h playback. That is ok with me, but how about using a (nimh) rechargeable batteries? Is playback time then significantly shorter?

2. Transferring content - I'm using Linux (Ubuntu). I can choose to T60 act as a mass storage drive so that wouldn't be the problem, right?

Well, I tend to get about 12 - 14 hours from a rechargeable battery, but for me that is plenty, since they usually have to be charged up in pairs at the very least (so I always have at least one fully charged spare).

As for Linux, I can't directly answer the question, however in Windows it is recognised as an external storage device without having to load any software whatsoever (in other words, you might as well have connected a basic flash drive).

Yep, 12-14h is great for me, too!

Well, that should be working with ubuntu too then.

Well that about answers my questions about the T60 also. I use Ubuntu as well. Just need to wait and see what sound quality is like when it arrives.

well, if we can trust couple of reviews laying out on internet, sound quality is great..

It is available in europe (croatia), and I hope I will buy it in a week or so...

The T60 has a rather warm, smooth and un-fatiguing character sonically speaking. I've transcribed some of my CDs using both the Ogg and Fraunhofer codecs at the highest possible bitrates and to be honest I prefer listening to them via the T60 that way than I do the original disks! If you go further and run the T60 through a high quality headphone amplifier it really comes alive. I think it is excellent for classical music at any rate.

Unlike the X20 (and Clix2 I believe, since I think they use the same Telechip), the T60 will also play Ogg files perfectly, without any low level noise interference.

Oh, i remembered one more question and I think this will sum up all my questions about t60

What about quality of t60 joystick? Some reviewers said navigation can be tricky (when pressing joystick for example), other said the quality is poor and it will break?

I can't say I agree with the lack of sturdiness of the joystick mechanism. My T60 has had very heavy use over the last 5 months and the joystick mechanism feels exactly the same as when it was new.

As for the "hit and miss" problem, yes I agree with that, however I think the T60 navigation is far, far better than the horrible navigation on my X20 with it's slippery, totally non-grippy wheel and convoluted menu structure. The problem with the T60 lies in wanting to press the knob directly downwards but you end up pressing it left or right instead.

I've never tried a T50 - maybe that has less of a problem because it's bigger.
