What's the big deal with UMS anyway???
I think I am missing something here.
I know that with UMS you can just drag-and-drop using Windows explorer but doesn't this limit you to using folder-based file management only? After trying WMP10 on my MTP T30 I got tired of WMP's many quirks so I decided to switch to UMS and used iRiver Plus 3. Didn't like how it managed playlists and I couldn't find any S/W that supports playlists in UMS mode. Then I heard the T30 was supported by Media Monkey so I switched back to MTP and I am happy now (I was pleasently surprised when the playlists I created with Media Monkey were automatically converted to iRiver's pla format). So if I want to transfer whole albums/folders I just create a playlist for each so it seems I can also do what UMS does in MTP mode. I don't use or plan to use my T30 as a flash drive, do not need to transfer music files from one PC to another, and 99% of the time I mix tracks from different folders/albums to create playlists. Also, is it not true that most subscription-based music services (Napster, Yahoo, etc) only work in MTP mode? Or is it the other way around? So unless MTP is somehow less stable or, in some other way, inferior, then it seems that, at least in my situation I am better off with MTP. Am I missing something here?? I am a newbie here so I am certainly willing to learn from you guys. Thanks in advance for any replies. |

I would guess one of the biggest issues is for that don't use Windows and use Linux instead.
I'm a Linux user and am planning on getting a Clix2 as soon as the 8GB model is out (does anyone know if the redline version will be available in the UK?) but I'm a bit worried as to how well it's going to work with my Ubuntu machine. |
